How to Detect Propaganda: the Authoritative Assertion

I happen to have inside information from reliable sources that Barack Obama actually was involved in the attack on the Twin Towers. It was part of his master plan to discredit George Bush. Then, based on a campaign of changing Washington and restoring trust, he could be elected as president. By creating a negative political environment, Obama could avoid having anyone question his true birth place, which as it turns out, is Lichtenstein. Obama is in fact, the illegitimate first born son of a high-ranking Bilderberger. Interesting to note that Obama’s father was the only Islamic Bilderberger.

Those who are predisposed to automatically believe negative arguments about the opposition will often accept them with little or no questioning and no requirement of verification. This is a very dangerous way to win an argument; it eventually comes back around to bite you.

The propaganda technique used to make this sort of rumor campaign work best usually relies on an initial appeal to authority. It is referred to as “Assertion” or sometimes – “Authoritative Assertion.” The authority doesn’t necessarily have to be real or factual or even slightly accurate. It just needs to be stated in a way that makes the argument seem believable. If stated with enough confidence, an assertion will work on more people than it should, in my humble opinion...
