No matter how HORRIFYINGLY PAINFULLY TRAGICALLY AWFUL it really is, it is a TRILLION times worse. Then things get *really* tough. After that, HORRIBLE things happen, and then we REALLY get screwed. Immediately following that, the BOTTOM drops out and we are all DEAD, and THEN things get HARD! Once that happens, it signifies the TOTAL collapse of EVERYTHING, and that's when the CATASTROPHE starts! It's the sign of the end of EVERYTHING, but after that, comes the TRAGEDY. Then times get DIFFICULT, and things get WORSE, until it's EXCRUCIATING, but that's just the beginning, because after that it's all PAIN. < /Sherri>

I beg to differ. Not all nuclear plants are near a large body of water. Palo Verde sits out in the middle of the desert. No large body of water anywhere.

Take a look at this blog post, and the comment in #48, for a great example of what I was talking about in the other thread. That's not from CNN.

Do you remember Palo Verde? She was a hippy-dippy loopy kind of freeper, but she was endearing.

Located in the Arizona desert, Palo Verde is the only nuclear generating facility in the world that is not situated adjacent to a large body of above-ground water. The facility evaporates water from the treated sewage of several nearby municipalities to meet its cooling needs.

The danger level has been pegged to the US National Debt! :) Well, in that case I'm gonna need a lot more Vaseline.

Note that I said almost all. It is a lot easier, and cheaper to cool a plant if you have water readily at hand. And from the APS web page
"Because of its desert location, Palo Verde is the only nuclear plant in the United States that does not sit on a large body of water. Instead, it uses treated effluent from several area municipalities to meet its cooling water needs, recycling 20 billion gallons of whitewater each year."

How they did not have 100 different back up plans is beyond me! Because the Japanese engineers that make Hondas and robots are not nearly as smart as you, Miss Blogger.

Palo Verde was a flower-print-Mumu-wearing, slightly-reeking-of-bong-water, dirty-toenails Hippy Dippy Chick, but she was a genuine sweetheart.
