Almost daily there are announcements about companies planning to open new operations in Maricopa County, especially in the Mesa area, while job opportunities in Tucson continue to remain dormant or shrink.

Does it have anything to do with the different political climates? One major difference between the Tucson area and the Phoenix area is that politically Tucson leans toward the left and Phoenix generally leans to the right.

i was in tucson 5-7 months and i’ll never forget the ludicrous leftists.

for example, one afternoon at a safeway several carloads of feminists

arrived from the university to invade the store, shouting “john dean for president”.

Phoenix is full of liberal nuts, too.

My husband’s business (Phoenix) has been doing much, much better than last year, thank God. There are still TONS of empty office and retail space, though.

It's the same tale of two cities for the last century.

Tucson is cooler than Phoenix due to an altitude difference; surrounded by beautiful mountains (with skiing, even); has beautiful Sonoran desert landscapes; and interesting places to go like the Desert Museum and other attractions.

But twinkie leftist politics and apathy have dominated the place since the 60's, mostly driven by people associated with the University of Arizona which dominates the town.

By contrast, Phoenix had groups like the Phoenix 40, a group of business people who essentially acted as a venture capital/business advocacy group starting in 1960.

They were the ones who did things like bring Intel to the Southeast valley (Chandler), and eventually convinced ASU to refocus away from football and cheerleaders (darn!), and move towards electrical engineering and semiconductor technology.

And that is the nucleus of the Maricopa County Republican party, which has been incredibly successful. But also controversial...

Tucson in contrast is always plagued by the politics of gloom and naysaying, embracing every idiotic leftist fad over the last 40 years. About the only thing that saves them is the massive federal cash influx into Raytheon, Davis-Monthan AFB, and the University itself. Absent that it's Alta Nogales.

Someday it may change, but we've been saying that for 40 years now....

There is now a movement afoot to shave Pima County (and the Mexican idiots who run the corrupt Santa Cruz county seem to want to follow) and create a Baja Arizona. The movement is led by the Democrat Party and the usual Tucson airheads, and it is supported by the Aztlan hive. It is not clear if anyone from Tucson has ever read the U.S. Constitution. (The Communist Manifesto is a slam dunk.)

Yeah. Good luck with that. A new welfare funds black hole for the federal government. They’ll be up for that in a split second, right?
