Remember When You Could Buy These Firearms By Mail Order Before The Gun Control Act of 1968?

Prior to the Gun Control Act of 1968, you could buy almost any firearm that struck your fancy by mail order. Many of us received copies of gun and outdoors magazines back then. In addition to being chocked full of interesting articles on hunting, the history, use, and maintenance of your firearms, you could buy guns directly by mail from a host of gun dealers who advertised in these magazines. Pay the price and the shipping and your gun would be delivered directly to your home by an agent of the United States Government, the postman.

We have pictured here an assortment of mail order firearm advertisements from 1964 to 1967. Its amazing what $24.00 to $39.00 or so could bring to your door. Or, try this one. For a little more, how about an M1 Garand direct to your door for $79.99 plus $1.00 postage? These ads will be a shocker to anyone who doesn't know about the freedom of mail order back then. They will be nostalgic and painful for those of us who miss those salad days.

I’m so glad I grew up in the old America. Kids nowadays have no idea of the freedoms we had.

I'm amen that. Heck, the kids of today think what they are listening to on the radio is good rock 'n roll, too.

I am so glad to have grown up in the 50s. With any luck I'll get getting out when the Schumer hits the fan.

“...I’ll get getting...”should be “I’ll be getting...”

At least we can still buy BP weapons through the us mail.

I bought my first BP pistol, a replica 1851 Colt Navy with a brass frame, at the "Gunshop" at Knott's Berry Farm in 1969. Bet the Gunshop there is long gone now.

“With any luck I’ll get getting out when the Schumer hits the fan.”

Ditto.

>My theory is that the NRA is afraid that outright repeal of the GCA would, in effect, destroy its own power.
They know they can drum up *some* funds from the scare-tactic of “the government’s coming for your guns!,” “XXX bikk would be a registration of your firearms!,” and “the >BATFE is doing such and such!” whereas in a world where the BATFE is shut down because it is patently contra-constitutional they lose that ‘wolf’ and in a world where GCA68 is contra-constitutional they lose an entire ‘pack’ of such wolves.

This is not to say that there is not, right now, the danger of confiscation or registration; only that the NRA is in a deep symbiotic relationship with things the way they are. Freedom is scary: there is nobody else to blame for your mistakes.<

I had almost the exact same theory about the NRA, only it was in regard to them donating to so many democrats(in order to prolong the problem they are fighting) The way I see it, if the gun control problem is eradicated, they lose a bunch of teeth and donations.

There’s a number of online places that sell BP guns.

If the NRA could win the 2nd amendment fight then they would have the experience and winning record that would allow then to move on to the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th amendments. Not to mention that this fight will never be over. Even if we could repeal the Federal laws like the, 1934 National Firearms Act, 1938 Federal Firearms Act, 1968 Gun Control Act, 1972 creation of the BATF(E), 1986 Firearms Owners Protection Act, 1990 Crime Control Act, 1994 Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, and the 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, there would still be state laws that would have to be overcome. Further and most importantly liberals (and those others dedicated to tyranny) would begin new plans to disarm the American populace. It’s not a fight that can be won, only fought.

Look, I agree with everything you said. In the end it’s still my take that a resistance effort today would be mere suicide.

The media would cast us as some NAZI-like beast. We would be crushed like a bug, and the only thing we would succeed in passing on, would be a revulsion for us.

I don’t want to get into a long diatribe on the subject, but it’s my take that the world has shrunk to the point that truth is reaching every corner of the planet. It’s my take that evil has grown to the point that only one power in the universe can right what’s wrong.

In the past we carved out pockets of goodness. I don’t think that will be possible anymore. This nation isn’t going back, and if it isn’t, then what hope is there for us to right what is wrong with our own efforts?

I honestly think it’s time to get ourselves right with our maker, and let Him sort things out. There’s probably more to be passed down to others by living an exemplary life of passive resistance to evil, speaking out, than by taking matters into our own hands.

In the overall scheme of things, evil doesn’t stand a chance in the face of righteousness. OB1 had it right. They have no idea what power they will unleash by killing us.

What’s it called when a nation makes progress in some areas (rights for certain groups, medical breakthroughs, computer technology, etc), but regresses in other areas (rights for all, privacy, freedom, etc)?
