Is Gay Marriage an Economic Development Plan?
RealClearPolitics ^ | March 22, 2011 | Maggie Gallagher

The arguments for gay marriage get ever stranger:

This week in Indiana, Jill Cook, an executive from engine-maker Cummins Inc., testified that a proposed state marriage amendment "jeopardizes our ability to be competitive in global markets."

I hope Cook was not testifying under oath, because that's an amazing whopper of a claim, and one that we are hearing more and more often.

In Rhode Island, newly elected Gov. Lincoln Chafee actually touts gay marriage as key to his economic development plan for Rhode Island.

Chafee brandishes the 2007 book "The Flight of the Creative Class" by professor Richard Florida to make his weird case. As columnist Edward Fitzpatrick of The Providence Journal noted, Chafee talked about Florida's book when he first chaired the state's economic development corporation board. During the Feb. 6 edition of Providence NBC-affiliate WJAR's "10 News Conference," Chafee paired gay marriage with repealing a measure requiring employers to verify legal status as twin necessities for economic growth. In his inaugural address, Chafee actually claimed passing gay marriage would do "more for economic growth in our state than any economic development loan."

Clearly, a strange new meme has been launched. The people launching it must believe themselves immune from rational scrutiny. What's the evidence that state marriage amendments hurt, or that gay marriage helps, economic growth?

The courts didn’t legalize same-sex “marriage” to advance freedom, but to use it as a battering ram against freedom.

Sorry, Maggie, but you lost the debate when you began using the term “gay marriage”. You should know better than to let your opponent pick your language for you, since now you look like nothing more than an exclusivist bigot - and make us look the same. I’ll thank you for finding another line of work.

This is ALL any of us need to know about gays and gay marriage:

"Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind, it is abomination and ye shall be put to death."

Leviticus 18:22

The gays can spin it or rationlize it any way they want to, even going as far as to say the New Testament made the Old Testament irrelevant. Or saying "Jesus really does not care if I am gay...." (I actually heard one say that one time, I just shook my head in disbelief). Only now, the "shall be put to death" can be expanded to mean spiritual death rather than physical death.

Any “recovery plan” based on sickness and a lie can never be truly successful. The cost of the consequences will outweigh any benefit.

Not Richard Florida again. That stupid book of his has been disproven a number of times. It only takes a cursory comparison of the cities he said had thriving economies (because of how "gay-friendly" they were, according to him) to the real economic data at the time to see that his list was not only wrong but was exactly the opposite of the truth.

Yet, municipal and state government elitists continue to revere it. I think it's mostly because by doing so they feel like part of the more enlightened, "in" crowd. Really, isn't that the reason political correctness became so entrenched in the first place?

Am I reading this right? Only gays are creative? Not only that, but they’re THE creative class? So, Albert Einstein, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs...all gay?

There are obviously homosexuals (Oscar Wilde) and there were homosexuals long before there was “gay.” I would define a homosexual as someone attracted to the same sex. But “gay” is a political statement. Gay is a lifestyle choice. Gay is anti-American like any “multi-culturalist.” The difference is, you can be a conservative homosexual, but you can’t be a conservative gay. Not only that, but “diversity” training is trying to do away with the difference and convince homosexuals, who have always been in the military, that they are indeed gay. I’ll bet that gays are not accepted by the homosexual military. It will be homosexuals who get prosecuted for discriminating against gays, because they know that gays are anti-American and anti-military.

Multi-cultural means any culture except American. Gay means multi-cultural. We can blame Congress for promoting anti-Americanism as Democrats pander to identity groups with laws and millions of dollars in our tax money. My former employer, a big government contractor, would have written up any employee who said anything that sounded less than supportive of multi-culturalism or gayness. Anyone about to say, “I support a marriage definition of one man one woman,” would first look around to see who might overhear.
The company “diversity” board regularly featured socialists and communists. The company newspaper ran an huge article about Eugene V. Debs; socialist...anti-American.

“One thing we do know for sure: If gay marriage is a big part of your governor’s or your business leaders’ idea of an economic development plan, your state is in big trouble.”

And if your state thinks it should promote that children be denied either a mother or a father, you should move.

Is Gay Marriage an Economic Development Plan?

Yes, it is . . . but not for the reasons cited in this article.

"Gay marriage" certainly is an economic development plan -- because an economy built on consumerism is eventually going to run into roadblocks due to the serious limits on just much money families can spend on crap they don't need.

As a result, there is an underlying move to "normalize" any kind of lifestyle that is built on self-centered, narcissistic people who are emotionally stunted, have no sense of responsibility, no interest in raising families, no limits on personal behavior, and are so self-destructive that they'll eventually need lots of medical care.

I've never heard of a homosexual (male or female) who lived a simple, unassuming life.

So normalizing polygamy, Sharia, Wicca, pedastery, child brides and incest will help Wall Street?

Only if those types of people spend a lot of money on crap they don't need.

I'm pretty sure that polygamy (in the classic sense) will never be normalized for that reason alone. Most polygamists these days live on compounds out in the middle of nowhere and probably don't even have bank accounts, let alone credit cards or huge mortgages on their homes.

P.S. Why do you think so many major U.S. corporations are big supporters of legalized abortion and "gay marriage" in the first place?

It used to be because a family with five kids could never afford to buy a new car every few years or go to Disneyland more than once in their lives (if even that).

Now, it's because even a family with 1-2 kids can't afford those things.

Am I reading that right? Did the Bible just say lesbians are cool, gay dudes, not so much? I didn’t see that followed by “Nor woman lay down with...” and it was clearly written to a male audience. Think about it.
