The Coupon Whisperer: Save Your Ken's Marinade Coupons
The Coupon Whisperer ^ | March 24, 2011 | PJ-Comix

If there is one coupon you should be saving, it is the $1 Ken's Marinade coupon in the current SmartSource insert. I am planning on saving about 40 to 60 of them. They expire April 30 and there is a good chance that Publix or another store will sell them BOGO before then. Since they usually sell for $2.99 that means you can get this marinade for only about 50 cents each. Even better, Albertsons sometimes put them on sale for only a buck each which means you can score these FREE.

My favorite of their marinades for steaks is the Honey Teriyaki marinade which you can see above. However, for pork ribs, the Herb & Garlic is OUTSTANDING. I used this marinade a couple of weeks ago on some ribs you won't believe how incredible it made them taste.

Yes, marinade makes all the difference in the world when cooking meats. I don't see the point of buying expensive meat and then not soaking it in marinade. And with these coupons, the marinades can be incredibly cheap.

I think my aunt currently lives in the Florida panhandle. I lost contact with her after my uncle (my mother's brother) passed away way too young. I am sure my aunt is still IRRITATED by Yours Truly. Tough luck. She deserved it for not making the small effort to learn how to cook food that wasn't tasteless and bland.

PING!

Remember, the best way to keep up to speed on the coupons and SAVE money is to ask to be placed on The Coupon Whisperer PING List.

oh, PJ, I thought Cyber Liberty put me on the list. Sorry, please put me on the list.

BTW, BargainBeliever.com is a printable coupon maker in AZ. It’s great for stores around here.

I saw a woman buy $200 in groceries and paid a mere $15. I had to ask for her card.

Thanks for all your work!

Wow! How do you save 40-60 of these coupons?
Do you purchase that many papers, or is
there a secret source? I coupon and sale
shop - usually get 1/2 off the bill; but you’re
a wonder!

Thank you, PJ, I am honored.

BTW, we got 50 pounds of fresh lemons from one of
Cyber’s friends. Too many to hoard, so we squeezed them and put them into ice cube trays. One ice cube and a bit of sugar and water makes lemonade for a year!

Different ways to save on the old grocery bill. Can’t wait to try all of your stuff!

Marinade is for cheap meat. Expensive meat has enough flavor on it's own.

Well, it isn’t exactly Peter Luger’s here. Just regular steaks.

How do you collect so many coupons? I just get 1 insert when I buy the paper, do you have family and friends saving the inserts for you?

When is someone going to come up with a way for me to get a new Glock free with coupons?

There’s a Chinese trick for when you have tougher and older cuts of meat, that you can use to freshen the up and tenderize them prior to marinating.

It is simplicity itself. First, thin slice the meat, then soak it in water with from a heaping teaspoon to a tablespoon of baking soda dissolved in it for an hour. If you’re doing it right, the meat should turn bright red as if it was fresh. Baking soda has a pH of 9, and its alkalinity breaks up some of the acidic bonds in the meat. Some of the fat will float to the surface.

The hard part is that you must wash the meat thoroughly after doing this, to get the baking soda flavor out. A cursory rinse won’t do.

After this, then, pat the meat dry and marinade in your favored sauce.

If you did it right, the meat will be light and tender, cook well, and won’t taste like baking soda.

Find a newspaper bin where they are tossed. I have my secret spot (enforced with a fake badge) so just get yours. However, I often just buy the coupons off the web.

HOT TIP ALERT!!!

This week Listerine is on sale at CVS for just a buck. But wait, there's MORE! Go HERE to print out a coupon for $2 off 2 bottles of Listerine. Therefore, after applying the coupon, you get two bottles of Listerine for FREE!

I am down to about a two month supply of antiseptic mouthwash so this should be a nice addition to my stockpile.
