How much money will be going to the NEA and Planned Parenthood under the new plan? How much money will be going to Acorn? How much money will be sent overseas to foreign governments by USAID?

Until the answer is anything besides “zero”, then Medicare cuts should be off the table.

Any budget cuts that do not include eliminating all federal agencies not in compliance with any of the enumerated powers granted to Congress in Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution are nothing more than smoke and mirrors and will not solve the budget deficit.

There are no enumerated powers to regulate the environment, communications, education, health, food, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, firearms or agriculture. Consequently the EPA, FCC, Department of Education, DHHS, FDA, BATFE and the Department of Agriculture are all Unconstitutional as the above powers are reserved to the states or to the people per the 10th Amendment.

Eliminating these Unconstitutional agencies, along with any others not listed in violation of Article 1 Section 8, will restore the limited government principles the founding fathers instilled in the Constitution and thereby drastically reduce federal spending and balance the budget.

Cut half the departments in D.C. would be a good start.

Paul Ryan’s plan is absolutely needed to save this country.

It is our only hope for the future.

Democrats will undoubtedly try to demogogue this to death.

I hope the American populace and electorate is too smart to fall for the vicious and outrageous rhetoric that is sure to come from the democrats.

Ryan’s plan makes sense and I hope that many fiscal conservatives and other republicans embrace it and when they return home at the next break that they explain it in simple terms to their constituents and in a way that has logic and common sense behind it.

The rest of the GOP had best get behind and support Paul Ryan!

To those that fail to do so, take this as notice that we are prepared to “primary” you.

Not that “bold” a move. If I’m right, it appears the cuts to spending will be roughly $400 Billion annually for 10 years which leaves us still borrowing almost a trillion a year going forward adding another $10 TRILLION to the debt during that same period.

Like I said, not too bold.

I am not optimistic...

Just look @ Wisconsin tomorrow it is a "Bob Dole Moment".

Does anyone remember the Contract for America and how it died after Bob Dole came up one vote short in the Senate for a Balanced Budget? The metaphorical victory tomorrow maybe in Wisconsin if the State Supreme Court Seat goes to the Pro-Union Justice. It is linked to this Federal Debate, it is a battle on many fronts, if we loose in WI it will be a huge blow just like Dole's loss.

The fact of the matter is, we have almost a majority of the populous that is devoid of any knowledge of the Federal and State Constitution's, the Accounting Equation, and have an entitlement /spoiled child mentality to back it up.

I fear Ryan will end up like Kasich, Perry, and J.C. Watts, who pretty much gave up because it was hopeless....

So that means $400 billion/year. The Deficit is $1.6 trillion. Seems we still have an existential problem.

It is very discouraging when I read comments on Free Republic that essentially dismiss a serious effort like Paul Ryan’s as “not enough” until it completely defunds all the awful agencies that have grown up over the years. Trying to get something serious like his plan served up, explained and considered is a challenge enough without the carping of those on the right who won’t even read the summary, much less the detailed talking points.

I consider myself a Tea Party participant and supporter, but when the Tea Party starts morphing into what the libs say it is, or what some of the polls say it supports (”they only want to protect their own benefits and entitlements and they won’t consider any reforms to medicare or Social Security” [even when these reforms are structured to make changes long before a person approaches retirement]) if frankly disgusts me. We, in the Tea Party, need to remain principled and support this kind of effort (Ryan’s kind of effort) to get these reforms debated, understood by most of the electorate, and then enacted. If we can’t do that, we should just give it up and admit that we’ve all be suckered into this awful state of dependency that FDR and LBJ and Obama intended.

Here you’ve excerpted this article on Ryan’s plan (not even fully revealed but just pre-announced) and Freepers are dismissing it as “not enough!” “needs to start by eliminating X, Y, and Z!” and “RINO lite!”

Paul Ryan is the kind of principled conservative we need to support to get things actually done in turning around this beast we call the Federal Government and Budget. I’d love to see the Departments of Education and Energy and others eliminated, but save that for the 2016 election and let’s get a plan underway that we can defend and run on in 2012 that leads to turning around this beast!

JMHO.

Asked about the scale of his budget's spending reductions, Ryan said they would exceed $4 trillion

Even when the republicrats controlled the entire govt they couldnt find enough balls between them to cut anything so forgive my skepticism. This BS could just as well say, "and the republicans have outlawed the democrat party and forbidden everyone that has been elected under that party from running ever again for any office." There's prolly more chance of that happening.

Anything that says "we're going to save 'x' over ten years" is a bald-faced lie. The vote in one Congress can not be binding on any future Congress.

Unless these cuts are done now, this fiscal year, they're as real as Unicorn farts and pixie dust. And Congressman Ryan knows it.
