When in HI this Spring many people were called Aunti, that were not family. Just thought a Freeper might be able to get the information.

Oh I know. I lived there. That’s why i asked. I could not tell if you were using it like Hawaiians do. Mainlanders don’t know or use the term. That’s islander speak.

In HI kids are taught to call all kinds of women their mothers’ ages or older “Auntie” whether they are actual blood aunts or not. Elder ladies are often called “Auntie so and so” by everyone, it’s like a title practically.

Very, very commonly used when I lived there.
