For me the survival of the US Constitution trumps ideology.

In know how to make Donald Trump go away and not run for President. Take the air from his balloon.

When Boehner does his job and holds hearing on Obama’s eligibility just like there were congressional hearings demanded to confirm McCain’s eligibility (because he was born on a US airforce base in Panama) and they demand that Obama disclose all of his records including the longform. Once Obama has proven his eligibility as demanded that John McCain had done, the “Birthers” will be satisfied and the air will be sucked out of Trumps balloon. Simple as that. Sign the petition!

Video: A Question of Eligibility (Full Movie!) Very informative!

Thanks FM

I dislike the current field, few tough enough to endure the Obammunist gauntlet.

Make that NO men... and Pallin and Bachmann have no economic background to fix the debt and get the economy going.

Wasn’t “lack of executive experience” what got us in this mess?

And I REALLY like this:

“There are a lot of things we can do to reduce that deficit... and I mean in a hurry”

You don’t hear any doomsday worries or attempts to reduce expectations, hand-wrigning “this will take decades” like you hear from everyone else.. Trump says I’ll FIX IT, NOW

I am completely opening my mind to Trump from this day forward, and I have NEVER seen a full episode of his show, never much of a admirer, either-

But Donald Trump is already running the best campaign, one of the few with NO fear, and his resume puts most of the rest to shame... be it Palin (who I adore), Bachmann, Pawlenty.

When Trump’s in the room, nobody has to ask who the boss is... to turn our giant ship of state around will take a real hard yoink on the wheel... not steering with a pinky finger like we’d get from Romney.

I could see getting behind Trump, he has charisma, smarts, he didn’t get rich being stupid. Even if his father staked him he is still successful. Everyone was ready to get behind Perot until he screwed up in a debate with Gore when the question came up about business tax breaks when all he had to say is that he is a business man and he is going to do what is best for his company. If the rats can get behind the lemon they got now the pbs and independents can do the same. And hell a Trump personality might be just what the country needs now. America first!

What kind of person argues that the 14th Amendment changed the qualifications for POTUS?

It may or may not have changed them, depending on what you believe the rules were at the time the Constitution was ratified. But given that the rule was not expressly defined, and therefore left ambuguous at best, I think the 14th cleared up any ambiguity under a plain textual reading of the statute.

I've been practicing law for nearly 20 years, and am quite successful at it. I've argued cases based on interpretations of the common law, statutory law, and constitutional law at both the state and federal level. I'm a long-time member of the Federalist Society, and follow the same general textualist approach to construction as someone like Scalia, valuing the plain, ordinary meanings of words over unexpressed, ideosyncratic interpretations argued after the fact or that weren't clearly accepted among all ratifying agents. And I share in particular his mistrust of much of what is considered to be "legislative history."

Now, I certainly don't expect you to find any of that remotely convincing or impressive. I mean, why should you care about any of that? I mention it only to emphasize the reverse proposition -- why would you expect me to be even remotely convinced by you? You're making the exact kind of highly selective selective "legislative history" arguments I routinely laugh at when made by liberals trying to twist the text of the document. You don't like the textualist approach -- fine. But I'm hardly going to reverse my entire thinking about constitutional interpretation based on anything you've said, no matter whether or not it leads to a result I might otherwise prefer.

One whose own party says "don't take him seriously"?

Exactly. "They don't take me seriously, so I'll show them. I'll run as an independent and ensure that Obama gets re-elected. That'll teach them to mess with The Donald!"

If he can't win the nomination in the party that's the home of most conservatives, then how does he expect to win the general election? And oh, suppose the nominee was Palin, or Bachmann. Would you still be thrilled if he ran as an independent?

Would you still be thrilled if he ran as an independent?

I'd be more thrilled if he did not run at all. But that's not going to happen until someone takes the air out of his balloon. There's only one person that can take the air out of Trump's balloon and that's Obama.

All he has to do is release his records completely and come clean with more than American people 80% of which are suspicious about his eligibility to be the President.

Personally, I prefer that it not be a choice between Donald Trump and Obama. But If Congress does not do their job and hold hearings on the issue (just like they did about John McCain having been born in Panama) then this issue will move on to be an issue during the Election 2012 Campaign. Something that should not be.

Back during the 2008 primary season, by the time we voted in Texas, we were essentially choosing between McCain and Huckabee. I for, one, preferred Duncan, but his campaign never got off the ground.

Therefore, in a similar vein, in case all the true conservatives have dropped out by March, how would Trump compare to the other possible Republican so-called moderates, like Romney?

I didn’t even read your reply. I wouldn’t discuss the weather with you on a thread that has long since died. That amounts to a private exchange, which frankly I find creepy. If I wanted an IM session with you...well, suffice it to say I never would. Nor would I PM you for large sums of $. I pinged you originally to an active thread and anticipated a discussion THEN, not long after the thread turned into a ghost town. You’ve used this MO before, repeatedly. You get nasty and dishonest in a one-on-one, which is evidently why you prefer that type of exchange. Or, if you say, ‘I was too busy to respond sooner’; fine; you are too busy to discus the subject with me. Find someone else with whom to discuss it.

Here’s what you can do. Save your reply to me, and keep it handy. The next time there’s an ***active*** discussion of the NBC issue, I will plan to ping you. You can cut and paste your reply in then. If you do it while the thread is still lively, I promise to read every word. That is as fair as I can make it, and my last word on the subject. Take it or leave, whichever you prefer.

Look in the mirror, stalker boy. You were the numbnuts who posted to me. It was your post #24 on this thread that resurrected an argument I'd long considered dead. I was shocked to see you posting to me at all.

I've gotta give you credit for an apt screenname, though.

You sure get nasty and resort to name-calling at the drop of a hat, don’t you? Nothing like making it personal, is there, BCC? Are you trying to get yourself zotted? You sure act like it.

I explained my reasons for my reaction. They make sense to any decent, normal person. [Your ugly outburst underscores exactly what I was talking about: thanks for proving my point.] That you explode in vituperation is scary. YOU are scary. You mentioned you hang out on far left sites. Are you sure they’re not your native stomping ground, and you’re just flying under the radar at FR?
