Well, I was not comparing Trump to Reagan. I was comparing you to the anti-Reagan republicans actually.

The Trump backers are just dreaming. I cant believe you all are so desperate that youd believe his shtick is real.I'm not a Trump guy but he is undeniably smart and he has been doing some polling. He's reeling in the conservative base by doing just enough policy wise to make him 'acceptable'. He's taking populist positions vis a vis China, trade and jihadists that will attract independents and Reagan democrats. And he's appealing to the country at large as somebody with the knowhow, toughness and command to right the economic ship of state.
Not my cup of tea Donald Trump but smart, tough and cynical enough to take positions he's never taken before and sell them. And he's a good salesman.

And the republicans use to scorn "Ronald Reagan is just an actor!" It's a stretch to compare Trump to Reagan. In terms of background and behavior, he's much more comparable to somebody like Ross Perot.

Nope.
I said he was far better than Kennedy and will probably be only slightly better than Olympia Snowe in practice.
That so far has proven true, although Snowe has bested him a couple times. Overall though I’d rank him *slightly* better than her, and far better than Teddy.

You think us republicans are happy with the selection?
I wish Alan Keyes would enter the race.

There is a major part of conservatism that a lot of us forget about - and that’s straight up American pride and power.
Trump gets that 110%.

Can everyone stop for a moment and think about something:
It is not possible that Trump's plan is to run as an independent to get Obama elected. The two are mutually exclusive and here's why:
Trump has stuck his neck out on the birth issue. Way out. If he is proven wrong, he is utterly discredited and couldn't run as an independent dogcatcher in Bumscrew County. If he is proven right, Obama is gone. Toast.
So the scenario where Trump is a viable independent candidate for president, with Obama as the Democrat nominee, is not possible.

Trump says he is in it to win.Trump is looking at all of the angles. Trump needs to decide if he wants the job and if he can win. If both happen, we'll enter the race as a brand rather than a Republican.
For his planning, the first option is Republican which is out of his control. The second option is Independent which is in his control.
I think he could win as 3rd party. He might entice more Democrats and Independents.
If the Republicans promote a weak candidate, I'd seriously consider a 3rd party Trump because I believe he could win and he'd be a better choice that dumb or dumber.
Interesting times...

Trump FWIW started saying this last year, not in February.
And honestly, the abortion issue, while important, is not going to decide this election.

So we can focus on the issues. Geez
