Raising the debt ceiling is a sign of leadership failure

A vote on raising the debt ceiling looms.

Barack Obama on raising the debt ceiling in 2006:

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure,” he said on March 16, 2006. “Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership . Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America's debt limit.”

Raising the debt ceiling means a failure of leadership. Obama said so.

Austin Goolsbee had this to say:

White House economic adviser Austan Goolsbee said over the weekend that such a vote would be a product of “insanity.”

Hold on a second. That might have come later.

Hairy Reid on raising the debt ceiling on 2006:

“If my Republican friends believe that increasing our debt by almost $800 billion today and more than $3 trillion over the last five years is the right thing to do, they should be upfront about it. They should explain why they think more debt is good for the economy.

How can the Republican majority in this Congress explain to their constituents that trillions of dollars in new debt is good for our economy? How can they explain that they think it’s fair to force our children, our grandchildren, our great grandchildren to finance this debt through higher taxes. That’s what it will have to be. Why is it right to increase our nation’s dependence on foreign creditors?

There was something different about 2006. Now let me think for a minute....

In 2004 Steny Hoyer said raising the debt ceiling would be "immoral."

Today?

“The point we were trying to make when we voted against the debt limit was that..."

The rest of the statement is immaterial.

They will vote to raise it. That is too bad because a no vote would FORCE deficit spending to stop.

It just occurred to me today that they should have let the Government shut down and the troops left unpaid. We might have got ourselves a coup if that went on long enough and seen these guys get the REAL justice they deserve!

Truth is this. Right now the Federal Government can not spend one penny unless it is delivered up by the GOP. Any and all overspending, wasting, and graft is now compliments of the GOP. This is rock solid truth no matter what anybody says.

Kinda' makes you wonder why the "media" isn't reporting stuff like this as they would if Bush was still Prez.

OK, we know the reason why - they gotta' protect their selected leader, huh?
