Glad I do not live in New York State
Are You Kidding Me! ^ | April 19, 2011 | Mike Madden

You can not imagine just how screwed up the State of New York is. After evaluating summer camp injuries they realized that fun games like dodgeball and even wiffle ball resulted in physical injuries to children. So what did the DOH do? They issues a list to camps telling them that camps that let kids play these games will be subjected to more scrutiny. Whatever that means. The reality is that the games listed are what would be called competitive games, and what the Nanny Bureaucrats want is to eliminate all competition among our youth. The argument has changed though. A few years ago it was self-esteem. As that crumbled in front of them the made it about injuries and child safety.

During this authors childhood the amount of wiffle ball, stick ball and dodge ball played was astronomical. In case you don’t know what stick ball is, I will explain. It is baseball for poor kids. We cut a broom stick (made of wood when I was a kid) down and bought a cheap hollow rubber ball called a pimple ball. Stick ball was great until the Pimple ball broke. Then we would cut it in half and play HALF BALL. Believe me you can throw some weird pitches with half a ball.

So now the NY DOH wants to protect my kids from injury at camp. That is not their job. As a matter of fact it is not the responsibility of the State of New York to run summer camps. To regulate them to the point of cancelling a kickball or dodge ball game is insane. To do it in the name of self-esteem is tragic. You do not build self-esteem by having children do nothing. And even more important you do not build strong kids by not challenging them to be the best. That is done with competitive games.

So here is the screwed up part. Back in 2008 the state issued a report called Healthy Kids,Healthy New York -After School Initiative Toolkit. In it they talk about teaching nutrition and promoting activity Heres is a copy of the activity part.

Tips to Encourage Kids to be Physically Active

  1. Make physical activity fun!
  2. Offer a variety of learning experiences through games, fitness and sports.
  3. Be a good role model and do the physical activity with the children.
  4. Remember walking is a great physical activity, whether it’s in the halls of a building, or outside on trails or sidewalks.
  5. Provide positive feedback for participation in physical activity.
  6. Use physical activity as a reward.
  7. Provide age-appropriate physical activity opportunities.
  8. Choose activities in which all children can participate.
  9. Encourage children to be active at home.

How confused must the people of New York be right now. For your sanity I will not even go into the obvious dichotomy of this list. Read it carefully. It is self-contradictory. No wonder the DOH thought it was okay to ban competitive games.

Folks let’s get the Government OUT of our life’s, they are not helping.

The money line:

“Bureaucrats want is to eliminate all competition among our youth.”

Why? Because wimpified non-competitive people are easier to rule.

In my middle school years, we played a game at night called “freeway.” What’s that? About 6 kids on bicycles circle around to top of a driveway, cutting across the circle to try to run over the kid without a bike in the middle. His defense? A flashlight used to blind whoever charges him. And try to get them to crash into another kid on a bike.

The prize if you ran over the kid with the flashlight? You took his place.

Sounds insane? Maybe, but it was a blast. Lots of cuts, bruises, etc. But I guarantee none of us who played it are easily scared or intimidated...

One strain, sprain, a welt, God forbid a broken bone, and everything comes to a halt. This does not happen everywhere.
Go look at any good organized teams be it soccer, softball, baseball, football, etc., etc., there are injuries everywhere. This is a very serious question:

In what groups do these problems occur and become an issue?

Just maybe it is the group of people supervising that are the problem?

Wow! I never planned to move there anyway. Sounds like NJ is a better place lol. I loved stick ball. Was great at it. Sad kids can’t be allowed to have childhoods & enjoy simple things. Kids lack imagination it seems to me. That’s why so many are evil brats, & fat & lazy. And must be entertained 24/7. If stick ball etc is dangerous then why isn’t teaching kids its ok to be gay & get HIV & AIDS just as dangerous, if not more so??? Sassy is out at 8 am gathering chicken eggs & loves it. And I think I am going to teach her stick ball now. lol.

The good news is the health department has backed off and taken these new regulations off the books. Someone overstepped their authority.

Summer camps have been getting prohibitively expensive here in NYS and this sort of nonsense regulation is part of the reason why.

This is only going to sound the death knoll for summer camps here, which is a real shame as there are some great religious summer camps in this state.

Remember when we used to play “war” with real BB guns? We’d wear thick clothes and a snorkel mask to protect our eyes, stocking caps pulled over our ears and leather work gloves. What fun we had!

They’re turning our boys into little sissy, panty-waste faggots.

She has a choice breakfast before chickens lol. She wants the eggs for breakfast so she goes to get them. We have 5 hens so she gets all the eggs & loves them. Need more chickens I guess. When the horses come she will feed them , get eggs, & eat breakfast while the horses eat. Then let them out to pasture & muck 3 stalls & then do school work. After lunch she will get an hour or so of riding & groom horses . Some days she will get lessons. Do some more school work & then do more chores. Doesn’t seem to be a hard life. I did let her have cable in her room. She has a cell phone & gets almost whatever she really needs (or wants within reason). She can muck a stall faster then I can. She wanted to live on a farm. Oh & I forgot she has to brush her Great Pyrenees, Cherokee 3 times a week. That pup is getting huge! I am so evil lmao! Oh & the church bells across the street chime at 8 am each day, they wake us up unlike alarm clocks ever did but do sound beautiful.

Plus she climbs trees & is planning a tree house(oh the horror, she might fall). That she intends to build herself. I will help with cutting boards lol. I am determined Sassy has a normal childhood w/o crazy wackadoodles telling her their wackadoodle ideas. Sassy can tell my friends more of what goes on in this country then many adults I know. She keeps herself informed & I still think she sneaks on FR. Sigh.

We already do that but we could get a pig & named it Bacon....She wouldn’t eat it though, I would find the baby piggy sleeping in her room. She already tried to smuggle a goat into my friend’s house, cute little baby goat she wanted to sleep with. I think she was 4 yrs old.

Plus she isn’t learning wackadoodle bs from a bunch of morons who are pro gay & pro abortion. She is learning to think for herself & depend on herself. If she wants to play stick ball or tag with BB guns then I am going to let her. I like that tag with BB guns. I should play it with Joe & Nick. Too bad NJ makes you have a BB gun license. Hell we may even break that silly law! (WEFG)
