The only reason I can see that we would be footing any part of the bill is to pay off some of the debt that we owe them.

Don't know what the big deal is? This was promoted by the USDA to develop a taste for America food and beverges in China. Or did everyone miss that part?

Actually, there are laws in the works in China to ban the consumption of dogs and cats. And the idea has had some backlash from a minority of Chinese. And this small percentage of Chinese typically see this proposed ban as a Western concept. And I'm sure there is a person like you over there (in regards to the proposed anti-dog and cat consumption law) sarcastically saying "isn't multiculturalism grand?" ;)
