It's the day after the election. The celebrations have muted, the party supporters have grabbed a few hours sleep, and Canada has risen to a new political landscape.
If there is one lesson to be learned from Election 2011, it is this: be careful what you ask for.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Conservatives ended five years of minority rule as they achieved the majority victory they have long been asking for. No more pandering to the far left, no more kissing the collective asses of Quebec separatists. Harper repeatedly asked Canadians for a majority, citing the necessity of stability and the economic recovery. Canadians answered with an impressive 'yes'.

Happening all over Europe too, conservatism on the rise.
Hope we don’t screw it up on our end in 2012 so we can join the rest. Just think what we could accomplish if all the Western countries were conservative run?
Who knew? There wasn’t a word about this election on Fox or CNN. I guess it was a stealth election, not to be mentioned because Conservatives won in our neighboring country.
The Right in Canada got a working majority, but the Left went HARD left. The NDP are huge socialists.
The amazing thing to me, from what little I know about Canadian politics, is the complete collapse of the Bloc Quebecois. Does that mean that Quebec separatism is dead, or did they just sell out to the siren call of the NDP’s hard-left socialism?

Yes. IMHO, les Québecois want Euro-Style Socialism. When they don't get it, they'll fire up the Separatist Movement for the 937th time.
Let's think outside the box. They should join New York State, now that the nooyawkuzz have all that natural gas. Together they can keep themselves warm and with all Québec's electricity, they can keep the light on for each other. And don't forget the asbestos mines.
Ohhhh, the beautiful dream is enough to get me teary-eyed.
And then hard on the heels of that, we were busy enjoying reading how we shot OBL in the chest & head...
It seems like good news (the election), but I still don't quite get it...five elections in 11 years; & now they're guaranteed four years...you win an unshakable majority w/ less than 40% of the vote...I mean...
My basic impression: there is @ least one country w/ an even more bizarre electoral system than ours. And perhaps more bizarre voters.
You’re right: the headline of the Conservative victory in Canada was on the Yahoo main page for exactly 7 and a half nanoseconds.
Then let them actually try and shift some of these policies, the leftists have pushed over the years, they’d be doing their country a favor.
Don’t know a thing about the NDP,I assume that it is a higher step then the trash that composed the liberal party. Not really asking all that much.
