In 2008, Christiane Amanpour said she had a very close friend in intelligence who told her that Osama bin Laden was in a comfortable villa in Pakistan.

“I just talked to somebody very knowledgeable … that thinks that he’s in a villa, a nice comfortable villa in Pakistan” Amanpour revealed on the October 3, 2008 edition of “Real Time” with Bill Maher. Amanpour appears to site a woman in American Intelligence as the source

“Amanpour appears to site a woman in American Intelligence as the source...”

Wouldn’t that be to *cite* a woman...?

I think the US has known where Bin Laden was for longer than they want to admit.

There was an article in a UK paper a couple of days ago (and posted on FR) that speculated whether the release of files on the "detainees" in Guantanamo Bay forced action.

Reading between the lines, there was enough information in the files to possibly tip off Bin Laden that his "hideout" had been compromised. So, the US had to snatch or kill him before he disappeared again.

It's possible that US intelligence has known since before Obama was elected, but chose to watch bin Laden closely to see who came and went from his hideout.

Interesting but Bush wisely refused to violate the sovereignty of Pakistan.

LMAO....first thought that came to mind. Anything for an interview. Just don't tell Bush where he is or he would get the credit.

It's obvious that Osama was still more valuable alive than dead. We got the courer didn't we??

He's the one person who still kept eveything together.

Thank you for noting the sovereignty issues this action brings up.

How long until we have talks about borderless “world police” who have jurisdiction over all politicians, thinkers and citizens.

It seems to me that this episode is a case study in favor.

I disagree. Bush violated the sovereignty of Pakistan many times. Obama did so also (one of Obama's few decisions that was not terrible). It was unseemly for Obama to take so much credit for the action, but he either gave the right order or failed to stop the action once a responsible adult gave the right order.

We should respect the territory of countries in general, but when they intentionally protect and hide mass murderers, it's time to intrude on their territory to solve the problem.

Right.

But, I think it was more like: Bush knew he'd never hear the end of it.... and that NO success would silence the criticism over violating their turf.

“O”, on the other hand knows he will get a pass for doing something they'd criticize Busy over until the day he dies.

(Obama)failed to stop the action once a responsible adult gave the right order...

There have been rumors to that effect, involving Hillery, Leon, and others. I think standing orders (wanted, dead or alive) were issued to the military by GW and never rescinded. That gave the CIA the fig leaf they needed to force the issue. Obama jumped to the head of the line when he found out it was too late to abort the strike. That's why the White House was so comically off message when the news started spreading. He resisted/he had no weapons, he used his wife for a shield and she was shot dead/she rushed the operator and was shot in the leg, &c. &c.

I love it when a plan comes together...
This one ran like clockwork thru the extraction and then collapsed into a Mongolian cluster f#@k with the pressor.

Regards,
GtG

Our Dear Leader has issues with going off message and with speaking off the cuff. He just is not ready to speak about something like this unless his handlers can brief him for weeks and give him hours of practice in front of a friendly focus group.

Bush vowed to take the war to the terrorists and anyone who gave them safe harbor.
