Gov't Memo Warning About Leaks Leaked to Press

In the hours and days after Osama bin Laden was killed by Navy SEALs, it was agreed upon by higher-ups in the White House that they would try to keep as many details about the operation as secret as possible. Quickly, as CIA head Leon Panetta said, it "fell apart" the next day.

Trying to stop leaks, Mr. Panetta sent an internal memo to government employees Wednesday warning them to cease giving out sensitive information. If not, those who did not listen would be "investigated and possibly prosecuted."

The memo was then promptly leaked to the press.

Panetta wrote the memorandum after reports that the CIA operated a safe house near bin Laden were leaked, as well as "as new stealth drone technology" used to spy on the terrorist further. Panetta also warned that these leaks could risk lives.

I still don’t believe even a fraction of whatever comes from the Whitehouse.

One of these days the truth will come out, nobody will believe it of course.

Everybody wants to live the life of “The Easy Button”.

The information dump has helped our enemies tremendously.
This is a fact which cannot be seen in any other manner.
Tragic! So tragic is this dump, I have no additional words.

Patriotism? Official secrets? Those are 20th Century concepts.

Today’s mewling little DC pillow biters want advancement at all costs - including national security - and they are convinced that currying favor with the MSM is the best way forward.

Administrations are instantly compromised since a lot of employees who have different points of view are embedded into the bureaucracies.

Clinton managed to control a lot of the “leaks” (Not all) as well as use disinformation quite well (Becoming red faced and storming out of the Paula Jones deposition for example). The Osama aftermath has been a ridiculous mess that weakened, not propped up the Administration to anyone that paid attention.

something about “cows and closing a barn door” comes to mind.

You would think employees of the CIA would know the laws regarding CLASSIFIED information!

I blame this administration for “leaking” this info to raise Obie’s poll numbers.

It began with the Pentagon Papers. Seeing that the Government would not prosecute, after that nothing was sacred and oaths taken really meant nothing. Hell, most of the CIA leakers are senior officials.

Clinton only had Matt Drudge’s trickle to worry about. Obama has the full flood of sites like this one.
