I’ve read that due to advances in DNA testing, there will likely never be another Unknown Soldier.

It says that the Vietnam Veteran tomb was later opened and identified by DNA testing.

It is a great speech.

I noticed something today. We had the TV on in the shop garage, and something caught my attention, maybe it’s the tinfoil hat in me;

All my life, memorial day was a day when the nation came together to celebrate those who gave their lives to fight communism, socialism, oppression, etc. It was a unification sort of holiday, no matter where you were from in the United States.

But today, I noticed for the first time ever, the History Channel (now, I don’t watch much TV, we don’t have any in the house, so maybe I’m behind the curve here) is celebrating the north and the civil war. I found that very divisive. There are still many (and I may be one of them) who find the civil war controversial. Not because of the slavery issue, but because of the states rights issue. So, for some reason, it hit me in an odd way, and made me think, this is the first time I’ve ever seen memorial day be used as a further wedge to celebrate the feds control over individual states.

Maybe I read too much into it, but I’m a bit uppity lately about the whole issue. There was no talk of shows of our aid to Europe or a tribute to those who fought in the Pacific, no, it was about celebrating Americans killing other Americans. For some reason, it brought a bit of bile up in my mouth, and put me in a foul mood all day long.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy reading about the civil war, but I don’t think it should be celebrated in any way. It was a dark time in our history, and for the most part, I guess I’m one of those loons who thinks that it should not be celebrated.

Am I going senile here?
