Tennessee , June 1, ended collective bargaining for school teachers, a story pointedly ignored by the in-the-pocket-for-the-left news media.
The law signed by Gov. Bill Haslam allows for a process called collaborative conferencing" but leaves the school boards with the final say -- the teachers get no right to appeal; no right to ask for binding arbitration.
Further, there are certain things the teachers may not negotiate namely staffing decisions, the use of grant money, the employee evaluation process and whether or not payroll deductions can be made for political purposes.
It sounds almost like what existed in Pennsylvania before 1970 when the teachers got their right to strike.

Does TN automatically deduct union dues. The Wisconsin folks seem deathly afraid of that happening.
I am unfortunate enough to live in Pennsylvania. Teachers here have taxpayers over a barrel. In my town, a beginning teacher earns $58,000. That’s entry level! The average salary for teachers is $80,000. This district is located in one of the poorest counties in the state and per capita income is probably not even $30,000.
Homeowners pay more and more taxes with every teacher contract negotiation. The latest school board was swept out of office in recent elections. Changing school directors seems to do no good. The union holds them up for higher and higher salaries by threatening strikes. The new Republican governor and Republican legislature are not addressing the problem. It’s highway robbery.
I get to watch the final product of the school system and that is the crooks in prison. What a wonderful state we live in.

I like the ideA OF GOING BACK IN TIME.
I'm guessing that the teachers unions did but I don't know for sure.
This legislature is trying to change that a little but you still have a lot of them -- and I mean Republicans -- in bed with them.
That is the rub there; only the government can deduct union dues. If they stop, as is threatened in Wisconsin, then it is up to the union to collect from each member. The members may not like it once they actually write out a check.
