Knife Rights Win In The Granite State (NH)

Knife rights just got a boost in the state of New Hampshire. Gov. John Lynch just signed into law a bill that provides state preemption on knives. From the Knife Rights release:

New Hampshire Governor Signs Knife Rights Preemption Bill

June 9, 2011: New Hampshire Governor John Lynch has signed into law the Knife Rights backed Knife Law Preemption Bill, HB 544. New Hampshire becomes the third state in the nation to enact Knife Law Preemption.

Congratulations to NH Rep. Jenn Coffey who sponsored this bill and who worked tirelessly with her colleagues, local advocates and our lobbyist to ensure the bill passed unanimously in both houses of the New Hampshire legislature. Rep. Coffey's efforts enacted a strong preemption law which will protect knife owners from senseless local ordinances well into the future.

Rep. Coffey won Knife Rights' Freedom's Edge award last year for her successful effort to repeal New Hampshire's prohibitions on switchblades, dirks, daggers and stilettos.

Knife Rights' National Knife Law Preemption Campaign started successfully last year in Arizona. Earlier this year Utah enacted knife law preemption. Preemption prevents the creation of, or eliminates, a patchwork of ordinances and rules which serve to confuse or entrap those traveling within or through the state. A person traveling in a state without preemption laws could be charged with a violation of local law when they have no intention of violating the law. Preemption ensures citizens only have to know and abide by state law.

Preemption allows Knife Rights to focus its legislative efforts at the state level where it can more easily succeed in improving the legal environment for knife owners or opposing efforts to impose further restrictions on knives.

As Doug Ritter of Knife Rights likes to say they are the Second Front in the battle for the Second Amendment.

Edged weapons are also arms protected by the Second Amendment.

Best I can tell Coffey is not a “Free Stater” but is a Libertarian http://rlcnh.org/candidates/rep-jenn-coffey/

Which we have many of here in NH

On the other hand we have kook Ridley who posts on FR every-time he needs viewers..

I’d sure like to see knives de-regulated here in WA. Switchblades, and blades over 4” should be legal to carry.

I believe that “assisted-openers” are legal here, when switchblades are not. The difference is trivial. Even a single-hand opener (without the spring assist) is only trivially different in function from a switchblade. And so what if somebody carries a switchblade? How the knife ~opens~ has no importance at all. It’s what is done with it after it is open that matters.

Arizona, New Hampshire and Utah have shown the way. There is no reason that this legislation should not sweep through the states.

So she aligned herself with a fringe group, which owns Ridley. There are 4 or 5 of these FS in our House which has 400 members, hence “fringe” FYI they are paid a salary of $200 per biennium.

More important we got rid of the NRA person. Use to belong to the NRA but saw them sell gun owners down the river years ago.

Just a couple days ago, the Onion Leader had 3 separate stories about House Speaker Bill O’Brien. O’Brien has incurred the hatred of Democrats and several Republicans. I don’t have a problem with anything he is doing or the rest of the majority leadership either, for that matter. There is all kinds of hate and discontent. It’s pretty silly to watch. You should see some of the emails I get from some legislators.
All the Union goons and their Dem and so-called “pro labor” hangers on are ripped as hell at O’Brien for not having us vote on the Governor’s veto of the Right to Work bill. They are ticked because they want it to happen but O’Brien obviously hasn’t had the numbers yet for 2/3 and he refuses to schedule the vote, which is perfectly legal. So the demonstrators keep showing up at every session. Next session won’t be until June 22.
