Clarence Clemons, Bruce Springsteen's longtime saxophone player and a legend in the music industry, died Saturday from complications following a stroke he suffered about a week ago.
Clemons' sax has been one of the most defining elements of the E Street Band's sound. He has suffered from numerous ailments over the last few years. He had double knee surgery and even had to perform from a wheelchair at one point.
But his health seemed to be improving. Just last month, he performed with Lady Gaga on the season finale of "American Idol."
Clemons scored a Top 20 hit in 1985 with the song "You're a Friend of Mine," a duet with Jackson Browne that appears on Clemons' album "Hero." Clemons was 69 years old.

Tragic Loss
R.I.P Big Man....
A sad loss of a great guy. OTOH, if his stroke was that serious, it’s not the unluckiest thing that he died...the aftereffects of a bad stroke are very likely to put an end to ones’ good days, permanently.
RIP, Mr. Clemons.
Agreed.
RIP Clarence.
That sax added a dimension to Springsteen concerts that had been missing from rock for years.

“Clarence Clemons Plays The National Anthem April 1, 2011”
Clarence Clemons and "The Boss" showed up one day to work out in between concerts.
I had heard someone was coming but had no idea they were there and rounded a corner very fast and ran smack into Bruce.
I was startled but still said "sorry Boss!". He said "no problem man"
...then I ran smack into Clarence Clemons who grabbed me in a bear hug and laughed then gently pushed me aside and they went into the weight room.
It was weird...but very cool for a young man.
He was a talented man. Sorry to hear he passed.
RIP Clarence Clemmons
Born in the USA, (one of the bands worst songs) is playing on Sirius 80’s on 8 as I read the news that the big man is gone.
Camped out all night in front of the old Charlotte Coliseum on Independence Blvd for tickets when I was 17 or 18 yrs old to see the Boss, and the E Street Band. 3 solid hours of great music. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
First time I heard Jungleland, I got goose bumps. “...Kids flash guitars just like switchblades, hustlin’ for the record machine...”
A shame that Bruce became such a vocal lefty pantie waste.
Another era in Rock’n’Roll just passed.
RIP.
My heart about stopped when I read the title. I thought it said Clarence Thomas at first. That would not have been good.
He's gone on to his next gig, running the world of the future.
