Texas could soon be in a position to turn the lights off on a federal plan to phase out certain light bulbs. State lawmakers have passed a bill that allows Texans to skirt federal efforts to promote more efficient light bulbs, which ultimately pushes the swirled, compact fluorescent bulbs over the 100-watt incandescent bulbs many grew up with.
Glad to see my state is stepping up to the plate!! I’d be more than happy to purchase a good old fashioned lightbulb made in Texas!
Awesome!
Try us, that is.
Now do the same thing with those Klinton toilets!
FUBO!
If this administration has done anything positive (and it didn’t mean to), it is that in its overreach, it has spurred the States (well, the ones with cajones) to actively reassert the 10th Amendment (and the 9th).
Look at the POWER of those words:
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
It says (as all on FR know — this is for the lurkers we know we have) that if ANYTHING isn’t expressly stated in the USC as a right of the Federal Government, it belongs to the States. If it isn’t expressly picked up by a given State, it is a right HELD BY THE PEOPLE (also repeated and emphasized in the 9th).
It is about damn time we have people pick up the “don’t tread on me” flag and ram it down barry the zero’s and all Statist tyrant’s throats. It is just sad it has taken so many years to see what we have almost lost.
Ping
[Dang, bootleg light bulbs.]
We need some bootleg light bulb music! I’ll load up the trunk of my 57 Bel Air with lots of lightbubs and be tearing down the highway out of Texas one step ahead of the enviro law!
Johnny was a good boy
Till the enviro wackos came
Tried to take away his light bubs
It made him cry in shame
So he loaded up the trunk
Of his 57 Bel Air
And he made a run for the Texas Border
A Flying through the air
Run, run Johnny,
Run if you dare
Don’t let those enviros get your lightbubs
You know its just not fair
Runnin down the highway
At ten miles to the gallon
Johnnys runnin from the enviros
like an American purebred stallion
“Those commies will have to pry my bubs
From my cold and dying hands”
And then he aims his Chevy at those hippies
For his last enlightened stand
Johnny, Oh Johnny
Run if you dare
Don’t let those enviros get your lightbubs
You know its just not fair
Vroooom, vrooom!
Good luck getting around Wickard v. Filburn, although I definitely think that particular decision needs to be pruned.
Thanks EdReform! There are three or four articles on FR about this. Gonna be hard for “Tenthers” to miss so I’m gonna tag all of ‘em I run across instead of initiating the pinger. Have you seen the threads about Perry calling the TSA anti-groping bill back for this special session? Texas pokin’ a finger in the federales’ eye.
I will be going into Texas just to buy light bulbs! Wish we would do this in Alabama.
South bound and down
loaded up and truckin’
We're gonna do what
they say can't be done
We've got a long way to go
and a short time to get there
I'm south bound
just watch ol’ Good Hair run
Keep your foot hard on the pedal
Son never mind them brakes
Let it all hang out
‘cause we got a run to make
Boy are dark there in Atlanta
and there's bulbs in Texarkana
And we'll ‘em bring it back
no matter what it takes.
I love it. Sadly, it may come to this.
High Five Texans!
What is so incredible about this incandescent light bulb madness is there is no perspective in the amount of electricity the typical home uses in lighting. Homes in the U.S. use about 37% of the total electricity used with 12% of the average home’s electricity going for lighting. With that information, one can compute what the percentage of U.S. electricity goes for lighting: 12% of 37% equals 4.44%. So if we were to reduce that electricity us by 50% with more energy efficient bulbs, we would save 2.22% of our total electricity use in the home. With all of the trouble we are causing with the elimination of incandescent bulbs, is that savings worth the trouble?
What about the commercial users? Most commercial users already use energy efficient florescents. And much of our electric energy goes to outdoor lighting. If we put in more energy efficient outdoor lighting, we would save more than that 2.22%.
Well, if it does I plan to bring some out of Texas every time I leave and perform random acts of kindness. You’re first!
Walmart recently put in GE Evolve LED Area Lights in its store parking lots. Such reduced by 48 percent the electricity traditionally required to light its parking lots, while cutting maintenance costs by an estimated 75 percent. So, I say give the homeowner the satisfaction of controlling the type of lighting they need. At most, the homeowner will only save half of their lighting costs, which translates into about 6% of their electricity costs, which is not much money for the convenience incandescents provide. As for the commercial user, they will naturally go for energy saving applications because of the amount of money such changes represent.
I bought a cart full of incandescents over the weekend. Will continue to do so until I have a lifetime supply.
Who knows, at some point maybe I’ll give them as wedding, graduation and anniversary gifts.
