Great places to retire can be found outside of Florida and Arizona. In fact, many can be found outside of the U.S. entirely. Safe, attractive and affordable places to retire are scattered across the globe, from Latin America to Asia and even Europe. We've narrowed our list to eight overseas retirement hot spots.
Two factors critical to retirees (and their wallets) shaped our choices: cost of living and health care. To make our picks we consulted several experts on travel, tourism and overseas retirement, including Jennifer Stevens, executive editor of International Living, and Kathleen Peddicord, publisher of LiveandInvestOverseas.com. I agree with your sentiment; however, the thinking is that if Obama is reelected, will this really still be the country you fought/bled for, and that we’ve all always loved?
If a majority of our fellow Americans vote to keep him in the White House, I’m not so sure it’d be *my* country any more. And, without his having to consider reelection (unless he signs an Executive Order dismissing the 22nd Amendment)the damage he’s done in his first term will appear as nothing. You ain’t seen nothin’ yet. Talk of a second civil war, battles in the streets, etc. is exactly that: talk. Won’t happen. Too many of us would be perfectly content in Barry’s Utopia.

If Obama wins in 2012, we haven't seen anything yet. Obama already shows contempt for the law. In a second term, he will be the law. We will have to decide to go(If we can and are allowed to), submit(if not one of his favored classes), or fight(regardless of what we thought of the goodness of America).

The America I knew in the 1950’s is gone. Both my parents and Grand parents lived. In 5 years, these times will look good.

One of the most important things we lost with the ratification of the Constitution was the ability to move from one state to another, from one set of laws to another, and yet still live in America. Patric Henry hit on this during the ratification convention in Virginia.
We may get lucky in the USSC with Obamacare. I hope so. However we will not get lucky dealing with our debt. Writing a debt now to be paid by voters who can’t vote today (those under eighteen) truly is taxation without representation. It’s perfectly legal and Americans who disagree (most of those on FR) can’t get away from the debt without leaving the country or, some say, overturning the government. Even if we were to do the latter, we would still have the debt hanging over us.
As posted before, if this was an physical attack by a foreign power, we could fight it. Instead it’s an non-violent attack by a majority of people today on those who aren’t even voting yet. We’ll see which side wins in 2012.

I’ve been looking at getting some land here in KY. I’ve found several spots that are well off the beaten path where a person can go and survive WTSHTF.
My husband is Filipino by birth, so we retired to the Philippines.
Most Americans wouldn’t be happy in our rural town, but there are nice places in Manila and Baguio that cater to retirees, both American and Asian (Japanese and Korean) who live here part time or full time.
1. English widely spoken.
2. The Filipino people are kind and generous people who generally like Americans.
3. The climate is fabulous; always warm either wet or dry.
4. There are 9,000 islands to disappear among and several large cities.
5. San Miguel Beer.
6. Filipinas'.
That is why I repeatedly say Mabuhay! and Mabuti pakikisama pare co. Live well and oh yeah, there are many Christians there.

I am fighting with all available legal means, have my entire adult life. When that becomes ‘unavailable’ I will fight with whatever means are available.

Same here except I don’t think one can fight a geometrically growing debt. That’s three to six years away.
