It seems tougher by the hour for Planned Parenthood to rationalize its long-held motto, “Care. No Matter What.” That steep task just got harder this week, amid revelations that a shuttered Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Iowa broke client confidentiality by leaving behind personal health information (PHI) records for over 2,500 of its former clients. In early May, a Dubuque office affiliated with Planned Parenthood of the Heartland completed the sale of its property to Clarity Clinic, a local pregnancy help organization, and left behind a closet full of patient files that took Planned Parenthood staff 10 days to come...

Top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin’s lawyer for the email investigation has a glaring conflict-of-interest in the case: he was an Obama administration “point person” on Benghazi who dealt with classified information and exchanged redacted emails with Hillary Clinton. Miguel Rodriguez of the Washington law firm Bryan Cave is part of Abedin’s big-money legal team and is already handling communications with the government on her behalf during the scandal. But Rodriguez brings some personal baggage to his role as Abedin’s counsel ... Before joining Bryan Cave, Rodriguez served as deputy assistant secretary at Hillary Clinton’s State Department; then he was...

The nursery at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center – Fort Worth has never been as full as it has in the last 41 hours. And, the halls have never been so busy. Since June 26, 48 babies were born in less than 2 days. That’s an average of more than one baby an hour. And, there’s definitely a lively discussion here about why.

A baby died May 24 at Kern Medical after being pulled from the womb with a fractured skull. Police believe the baby girl's parents are to blame, but the case has presented a legal conundrum eliciting strong opinions about how to proceed. The mother is believed to have been 30 weeks into her pregnancy when she arrived at the hospital, according to a search warrant affidavit filed by Bakersfield police. [SNIP] It was during that interview with officers that police say she told them she and her boyfriend agreed for him to beat her in an attempt to kill the...

Naomi Tomky was still laid out on the operating table after an emergency C-section when the earliest pangs of regret kicked in. “The baby was being lifted over my head,” the 34-year-old freelance writer remembers, “and the anesthesiologist was like, ‘what’s her name?’ I started explaining and was like, oh God, what have I done?” Tomky’s now 8-month-old daughter is Tove (pronounced TOH-vah), a Swedish moniker that’s typically said like TOO-vah, but in this case, the expectant parents from Seattle changed the pronunciation for a twist. “My husband has Swedish heritage and then Tova, or Tovah, is a common Hebrew...

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A man and woman from central Florida are facing charges after their 8-month-old baby overdosed on drugs, the Brevard County Sheriff's Office said. Authorities arrested 29-year-old David Williams Chappele Jr. and 27-year-old Jessica Marie Strickland of Cocoa on charges of aggravated manslaughter of a child. The investigation began in September when deputies responded to a call about an unresponsive baby at a home in Cocoa. The baby died later at the hospital. The medical examiner, according to the sheriff's office, said the baby died from an overdose of cocaine and fentanyl.

A 21-month-old girl whose mother was killed while crossing a boulevard in Florida during an illegal street race has died, police said. The girl, Lillia Raubenolt, was being pushed in a stroller by her mother, Jessica Raubenolt, of Jeromesville, Ohio, across Bayshore Boulevard near West Knights Avenue in Tampa early Wednesday when they were mowed down by a black Ford Mustang that police said had been racing side by side on the roadway against a gold Nissan.Witnesses told the Tampa Bay Times the two cars reached speeds as high as 60 mph, but investigators were unable to confirm that. Kerri Rochelle Green was evicted from her Houston apartment in March. Weeks later, on April 23, a manager at the complex made a horrifying discovery when she went into her old unit to make sure it was empty. Green's two young children had apparently been left inside the hot, trash-filled apartment, according to KPRC. The 2-year-old boy and the 10-month-old girl were each wrapped in several blankets and were found lying in the same crib, without access to food or water. The malnourished-looking boy appeared to be the same size as the little girl, according to the Houston Chronicle. KHOU...

Prince William and the former Kate Middleton made such announcements two days after the births of his siblings, George and Charlotte.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Turkish authorities have jailed a Kurdish teacher for her condemnation of the killing of civilians during anti-PKK operations in 2016. The teacher gave birth recently and will go to prison with her baby. “Do not stay silent… Do not let human beings and children die, and do not let mothers cry,” Ayse Celik said on-air during a phone-in show on Turkey’s Kanal D TV station in January 2016. She was reacting to military operations in her hometown of Diyarbakir and criticized Turkish media for their coverage of the events. “What is happening here is shown on...

The incident happened early Thursday morning in a parking lot of the McLennan Community College in Waco. A spokesperson for the college said an officer on patrol found the car with an infant locked inside. When the officer was able to get the baby out, he noticed smoke coming from the trunk. KWTK, KXAN's sister station in Waco, reports other personnel on the scene were able to open the trunk, where they found the suspect, identified as Jacob Russell Laskowski, 24. The fire department report indicates Laskowski, who is a student at the school, locked himself in the trunk and...

For the first time ever, US lawmakers are reportedly going to let a sitting senator bring a child onto the Senate floor while the chamber is in session. Senate leaders are expected to approve a resolution filed by Sen. Tammy Duckworth — the first senator to give birth while in office — that would allow her new baby girl to accompany her for the next few months, according to Politico. The request will ultimately let senators bring children under a year old onto the Senate floor. Duckworth (D-Ill.) told the website before her daughter was born that new mothers couldn’t...

The bloody knife killings took place mid-morning in the busiest subway station of Hamburg, Germany’s second-biggest city. “The crime was very, very terrible in its execution, very targeted and very, very extreme,” said police spokesman Timo Zill. “We currently assume it was a crime of passion.”

Matching images of a South Carolina baby boy taken within weeks before and after birth show he continues to sleep in the same exact position as he did in the womb -- capturing the baby boy’s personality while highlighting the humanity of the preborn. Michael Steppling was caught in a laid-back pose with both arms up over his head when his mother, Sarah Kelleher Steppling, had an ultrasound at 38 weeks in her pregnancy with him. Michael continued to sleep in the same position after he was born, and his easygoing demeanor emerged even more clearly after his mom had...

Today, a British friend of mine posted a photo of his three-year-old son looking into his newborn brother's crib. Which is made of cardboard. Inquiring, it turned out to be "Scotland's Baby Box", a government-funded initiative that gives a large box full of clothing and baby supplies to every child born in Scotland. This thing makes the usual "baby bag" of freebies handed out at hospitals (and paid for by companies that hope the recipients will buy more of their product, when the starter packs run out. . .) look trivial in comparison. Since when was it the job of...

The medical establishment is losing its bearings. Caught in the twilight zone of transgender alt-reality, where hurt feelings matter more than hard science, America’s pediatricians see a new threat on the horizon. In the November 2017 issue of Pediatrics, Dr. Leena Nahata, a pediatric endocrinologist at the highly ranked Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, sounds the alarm about the “gender reveal” phenomenon. She warns that a sonogram posted to Facebook, or a party to announce the unborn child’s sex, is a hazard to “pediatric health.” So is the traditional delivery room cry of “It’s a girl!” or “It’s a...

My heart leapt this week when I placed my hands on your mommy’s belly for the first time and felt you move. Dear beloved grandchild, you are a squirmy one! My daughter giggled at my squeals of joy from feeling you softly “dance” inside her. Little does she know that one day very soon your movements will be powerful kicks instead of gentle flutters. Your mom and dad have decided to wait until your birth to discover if you are a boy or a girl. And they will rejoice in learning your identity, knowing that it is the Creator of...
