The House of Representatives has scheduled a vote on Monday to repeal the federal law that will ban the sale of incandescent light bulbs as we know them. Although the bill may likely pass in the House, it is doubtful Harry Reid (D. Nv.) will let it be brought to the Senate floor until he can confirm that it will be defeated. But, the real story here, is the reason for the House bill, as well as the reaction of Energy Secretary, Stephen Chu.

As to the former, Representative Fred Upton (R. Mi.) who originally voted in favor of the 2007 ban, is now of the opinion that,

[it] was never my goal for Washington to decide what types of light bulbs Americans should use.

I know, but since this subject just will not go away, and Rep. Bachmann I believe was a sponsor or co-sponser of that light bulb repeal bill, this shows that the fight is on-going.

Fred Upton has a history of being for things before he’s against them.

These days he blames the EPA for the lack of oil and gas drilling but several years ago he voted to ban drilling under the great lakes from shore using side drilling.

Don’t blame the republicans. So far this year the House has a budget, repealed Obamacare and repealed mandated mercury in every home.

I love the comment from Chu.

we are taking away a choice that continues to let people waste their own money.

What an idiot. Perhaps he would like to talk about windmills, a non choice that forces us to waste money against our will.

So what was Upton's goal? To appease environmentalists? To give light bulb manufacturers the opportunity to charge $20 for each bulb instead of 40 cents? To make us all do the right thing? Fred Upton is a statist, pure and simple - liberals are statists by default, but there are plenty in the GOP ranks as well. In increments both small and large, statists will remove every last bit of control private citizens have over their own lives.

I will admit that his niece is a stunner, though.

We are partly at fault because we have long expected the government to right every wrong and wipe every tear. Now the government is telling us the right way to wipe our rear.

In case the repeal doesn’t pass be sure to stock up on Decade Bulbs. They are an incandescent bulb that lasts almost 10 years if used on an average of 7 hours a day.

A company that caters to the hospitality industry sells them.
