Yes , you can see his campaign strategy of moving to the middle by being willing to compromise but ..... he has not been able to make the deal his pollsters tell him he needs to make , this Grand deal that will "save" the country and launch Obama 2.0 - the moderate for re-election. He has not been able to make the deal because he has no political capital and nobody cares what he thinks and demands anymore. When he goes on tv , as the rino Peggy Noonan said today , noone is listening to him anymore. He is a lame duck now.

I agree 100% that Obama getting the ‘big deal’, which is about impossible, would help him greatly personally get re-elected, but short that he is beating Republicans on (cynical) messaging to voters as to who is serious, all for 2012.

In the end I only care who wins/comes back with the goods. not who makes the great statements before their team folds, If Republicans were to actually get Democrats to cave on SIGNIFICANT spending cuts they would be my heroes, but so far it looks like things are headed the other way w the McConnell plan, he gets his clean debt ceiling with no real conditions except he agrees to future symbolic votes in congress. (BUT it is NOT over yet.)
