Obama Says FDR Was "Fiscally Conservative"

In response to a question regarding the poor state of the economy, President Obama asserted that FDR was "fiscally conservative" - you know, that executive powerhorse who, arguably, established the welfare state.

Whaa? Obama has made a bountiful share of asinine comments, but this one is beyond laughable. Quick note: FDR was the master inventor of the "New Deal," which uplifted a slew of new programs (at high price tags): the NIRA, the CCC, the TVA, the FDIC, the PWA, the NLRA, the WPA, the SSA, need I go further?

FDR is responsible for claiming a generous portion of the government program acronyms, which has made it difficult for later spendthrift presidents. Obama should be pissed.

Here are some of the President's comments:

Obama was referring to spending-cut measures Roosevelt took in the middle of the New Deal that lasted from 1933 to 1940.

“FDR comes in, he tries all these things with the New Deal; but FDR, contrary to myth, was pretty fiscally conservative,” the president said Friday during a town hall meeting on the campus of the University of Maryland.

“And so after the initial efforts of the New Deal and it looked like the economy was growing again, FDR then presented a very severe austerity budget,” Obama continued. “And suddenly, in 1937, the economy started going down again. And, ultimately, what really pulled America out of the Great Depression was World War II.”

Now we all know why Obama said what he did. First, he as always likened himself to FDR, so paying FDR a compliment is like paying himself a compliment.

His second reason was strategic, because saying FDR was "fiscally conservative" is saying that he himself is able to spend recklessly on New Deal-type programs while, at the same time, maintaining fiscal prudence. In political rhetoric land, it's a win-win.

FDR was Far Right compared to this clueless traitor.

He did not add trillions to the National Debt even though we had to fight the biggest war in history.

His budgets were either balanced or nearly so.

Obama knows full well that FDR was no fiscal conservative. Just another lie from POTUS.

What is most disturbing is how incoherent he is:

in 1937, the economy started going down again. And, ultimately, what really pulled America out of the Great Depression was World War II.”

When I was a young pup, I was taught that Roosevelt saved us from the Depression — that thanks to his intervention, the Depression was lifted. Turns out that because of his socialist programs, the Depression actually went on longer than it might have. but the myth about Roosevelt is still taught in schools today.

Really sad that you are taught certain things when you are in school, but then you get out in the real world and find out they aren’t true. These days, children are indoctrinated and brainwashed. Good reason to homeschool, if you can do it.

First, 0bama claims his work on the debt is like Lincoln’s emancipation of the slaves; now this.

“Baraq, put your arms in this here straitjacket like a good lad. It’s time for some treatment.”

Maybe Obama will launch his own National Recovery Administration with GE and GM getting the stickers first?

nobama knows the limited intellect of his followers and knows he can throw all sorts of fecal matter at the wall and some of it will stick in their minds.

Remember his DNA challenged followers believe GWB was bad for spending too much and increasing the debt while at the very same time believing the mongrel in the WH is good even though he spends so much he makes GWB look like a tightwad.

How brain dead do you have to be to hold both those thoughts in your head at the same time?

That’s pretty funny. Mr. Obama thinks that FDR was conservative with spending.

So, does this mean that Mr. Obama knows this little about American economics?

I guess so.

WW2 did not end the Great Depression, the end of the war (end of FDR) brought about the end of the Great Depression

If WWII ended the depression than what we all must do is deliver all our stuff to a lot outside of town and blow it all up.

More specifically, taking millions of men off the streets and putting them into uniform, and pumping billions of dollars into lend lease products for the Russians and Brits took the rest of the streets.

I don’t see many car plants being turned into tank plants anytime soon.

When we run out of money, and the spigot runs dry for the entitled class, well...that is going to be a scary day for us.

exactly.

Send half the country overseas and put the rest to work at government-run (pretty much) industries
