Teenagers and young adults who use marijuana may be messing with their heads in ways they dont intend, reports Harvard Health Publications. Also:
Evidence is mounting that regular marijuana use increases the chance that a teenager will develop psychosis, a pattern of unusual thoughts or perceptions, such as believing the television is transmitting secret messages. It also increases the risk of developing schizophrenia, a disabling brain disorder that not only causes psychosis, but also problems concentrating and loss of emotional expression.
In one recent study that followed nearly 2,000 teenagers as they became young adults, young people who smoked marijuana at least five times were twice as likely to have developed psychosis over the next 10 years as those who didnt smoke pot.
The so-called health benefits of medical marijuana could offset any positives, costing taxpayers billions. But the social cost is immeasurable.

The bottom line was that it might cause the onset of schizophrenia sooner in those who were going to develop schizophrenia anyway. My bottom line is that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, so this "might" cause schizophrenia, too! LOL!

Its much better than alcohol.

Besides, I don't have a billion dollars to pay for their psychoses.
BTW, didn't the last three POTUS's admit to smoking pot? That explains the mess we're in today!

Sorry .....But ever since Obummer I have a hard time believing anyone from Harvard! Alcohol and Marijuana are both not exactly healthy for you if they are abused...or used too often. IMO Kids shouldn’t have either...... Adults should be able to make up their own minds about what they put in their bodies.

Does your life consist of anything other than scouring the internet finding anti-drug articles to post on FR?
What motivates you to do such a peculiar thing?

Yes, this is as relevant and scientific as a finding that kids who listen to Goth music are more likely to take antidepressants - and claiming that listening to Goth music makes you depressed.
Self selection bias, but “cargo cult science” about covers it.

An equally likely explanation is that teenagers susceptible to mental disorders are ALSO more likely to be frequent marijuana smokers. It's called self medicating. Lots of addicts do it with nicotine also.

Uh oh, you should have posted the full blog post instead of excerpting. Excerpting blog posts is forbidden on Free Republic because by posting on Free Republic, bloggers waive all rights to their own content, and are supposed to allow Free Republic to have access to all of their copyrighted material for free. Actually, bloggers who excerpt their own material are captured and held in secret holding cells. Once we round up every single one, they will be allowed to choose.
Those who refuse to "interact" with Helen Thomas, sexually, will be force to fight in a coliseum style death match.

Do you understand the point I made?
Perhaps being crazy makes you want to smoke marijuana. There is no way to tell what they claimed from the evidence they gathered. Correlation is not causation.
Do you understand that?
