Whether it is for spiritual or health reasons – perhaps both – some creative types have embraced celibacy for years:

For some artists, celibacy is seasonal. For others, a long-term commitment. Nevertheless, supporters say abstaining is often beneficial. With the support and guidance of a faith, it can also guard against diseases.
Artists stand out probably because pop art, at least, is often associated with unrestrained sexual activity. “I can’t believe I’m saying this — don’t have sex. I’m single right now and I’ve chosen to be single because I don’t have the time to get to know anybody,” revealed Lady Gaga, in 2010.

Religiously speaking, there is a distinction between celibacy and chastity. The author doesn’t seem aware of it, though.
Exactly. Most of these performers, especially the younger ones, probably haven’t “embraced celibacy” as much as “rejected fornication,” whether for moral reasons or practical reasons, including health. They probably plan to marry someday.
