Does anyone else notice that the ML King statue in Washington looks remarkably like the Sphinx?
The same grandiosity, the image of a ruler, made by the same sculptor who immortalized Chairman Mao. God has his little joke.
I think that he looks angry. He should be.
The statue is, eh, white. Is Rev. Al ok with that?
I also say it looks like Mao
It sure doesn’t look like King. Why do we have to have a Chinese do a sculpture of an American? Do we have no Americans who could have done the job? I think the thing is a monstrosity. King looks like a Mongol.
I just think it’s artistically hideous.
If they’d have left him part of the “mountain” it would’ve looked better..*or* just skipped the “mountain” bit completely.
As it is, it looks like somebody took a chainsaw, cut him loose and then shoved him into the middle of a parking lot.
What is the supposed incredibly heavy “symbolism” of it, anyway?
*Horrible*.
They failed to capture the Christian spirit of the man. He was a Repulican; an American; a Christian. He was not a NOI communist thug as depicted.
OK, MLK needed a monument but why in the world outsource it to China? And why make it look like a Communist Tyrant/leader? He should have had something with more feeling—maybe a cross too? Imagine the stature they will put up to Obama?
It will be much uglier.
Chinese artist just doing work that Americans won’t! Well, it is just like all the other Chinese knockoffs ... they just can’t get it exactly right. They should title it, “A pathetic sculpture of a great man”.
Somehow, I think that was probably intentional.
It looks like he has a double chin and his head is too big.
That was the very first thought that came to me as well. One of the people who chose the sculptor said that the Red Chinese artist was the best person for the job. I think that there is a subliminal message that is intentional.
