Oh, yeah. Women getting lobotomies like Joe Kennedy’s kid and Tennessee William’s sister. Zelda Fitzgerald’s unnecessarily cruel and barbaric treatment at top-flight mental institutions. Absolute horror stories. Freud also added a whole level of stupidity and cruelty to the discussion - and I am one of the few people here who thinks Freud knocked it out of the park occasionally.

It also sounds so very dumb when someone resorts to the “emotional” argument, don’t you think? So passe, so trivial, so juvenile.

Agreed. I used to lecture on what I called the 3D cone of argument: logical, emotional, physical and spiritual. Once you move from logical, you slide quickly into degenerating and self-reinforcing arguments and statements of the other types, the spiritual corruption being by far the most dangerous.

I never thought of my concept as particularly novel, either, but it did impact a few people.
