This might have been the best part of the speech. Christie quotes Obama's 'not a liberal America or a conservative America' speech in 2004 at the DNC Convention and throws it back at him. "7 years later President Obama prepares to divide our nation to achieve reelection." This is tonight at the Reagan library. (Video)

I agree. After hearing that speech and his responses in the question and answer period, I’m beginning to think like that lady who asked him to run for the good of the nation. I think think this guy would destroy Obama in the election. He is Reagenesque, and I don’t say that lightly.

He sounds like someone who’s running, but he’s not running. I think he may simply be putting his name in the hat for VP. It’s between him and Rubio. Good strategy, if that’s what it is.

He also slammed Rick Perry. Big time.

You're not kidding.

When he said it was wrong to give subsidized college education to illegals and he was not heartless for believing that, the crowd gave him a big ovation.

LOL. That’s right. Rather than enjoy a Republican governor slam the president, let’s turn this into a Christie bashing thread or a thread about how horrible it would be if he ran for president, even though he has denied it over and over.

It’s getting to be the MO around here. If Obama gets re-elected, these people have no one to blame but themselves.

To my mind, the speech was pretty good, but where Christie is off the charts is how effective he is at give-and-take in the question and answer part following.

I'm trying to think of another politician to compare him to who is so good at Q&A.

Agreed, the Q&A was great. He is so good off the cuff and funny too.

I watched the speech with my 23 year old son who actually shed tears at the end. He is a great example of how hungry our young people are for true leadership in this country. They want something authentic and virtuous instead of the vapid, weak empty suit we have in the WH right now.

When the woman in the balcony practically broke down begging in asking him to run, I thought that was going be very difficult for him to handle.

But his response hit the perfect note. Amazing.

Frankly, the speech strikes me as extremely RINOish.

Yes, he criticizes Obama for failing to lead. But he doesn't say anything much about why his policies are wrong.

And how about this? "We watch a Congress at war with itself because they are unwilling to leave campaign-style politics at the Capitol's door. The result is a debt-ceiling limitation debate that made our democracy appear as if we could no longer effectively govern ourselves," he said.

According to Christie, then, the problem isn't that Obama and the Dems are proposing policies that will destroy our country. The problem is that both parties in congress are failing to reach across the aisle and come to an agreement.

No. You can't come to an agreement with a gang of corrupt, pork-guzzling communists who are busy destroying our country. That is not a workable solution--compromising with the Devil.

I think he’s just trying to get his two cents in and maybe be a good influence on our screwed up, hell-bent-on-mediocrity nation. I don’t think for an instant that he wants to be VP. And honestly, he’d go to waste in that useless position.

Being second fiddle is not in Chris Christie's DNA.

He sounds like a real American, the Americans I grew up with. Not the lying, cheating, stealing liberal-communist propagandists and union controlled anti-Americans that are the islamic communist government of today.

This, young people, is what a real American cares about. AMERICA and the AMERICAN PEOPLE.

He also needs to deport all of the illegal alien criminals, which is ALL OF THE ILLEGAL ALIENS.

All Christie's Kompassionate Kompromise Krap turned me off and I went back to watching "Earthquake" with Charleton Heston.
