Texas Governor Rick Perry caused a stir last week when he suggested that the deployment of U.S. troops into Mexican territory may be necessary, pointing out that five of his states citizens died in the past two weeks. The fight against the barbaric drug cartels has escalated each year since 2007, and terrorist groups are looking to benefit from the chaos. It has become a full-scale war worthy of attention, but Perry seems to be the only major politician sounding the alarm.
I think you have the same situation as you had in Colombia, Perry accurately said. About 31,000 people have been killed in the Mexican drug war since December 2006 more than five times the number of American soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq since 2001. And it is getting worse. There has been a 53 percent increase in murders since last year, with 10,000 murders so far this year.
Last week, four people in Tijuana were murdered in one day, with two having their corpses hung from a bridge and one being decapitated. Almost the entire population of 6,000 of Ciudad Mier near the Texan border has fled. A Pentecostal minister who fled said, We have no mayor, no police, no transit system. We have been left to fend for ourselves.
The drug cartels are so strong that the authorities fighting them must be genuinely concerned for their lives. In October, an American tourist was shot while riding a jet ski near Ciudad Mier. The investigator assigned by the Mexican authorities was killed only days later with his head found in a suitcase in front of military barracks. In August, 72 illegal immigrants on their way to the U.S. were found massacred by the Zetas at a ranch in the state of Tamaulipas that borders Mexico. Here again, the lead investigator was murdered within two days.
The violence has already spilled into the U.S. The federal government has placed signs along 60 miles of Interstate 8 in Arizona warning people of the danger in the area. This is over 100 miles north of the Mexican border and less than 50 miles south of Phoenix, well into American territory. Sheriff Paul Babeu of Pinal County says that local law enforcement has been overpowered by the cartels and that the Mexican drug cartels literally do control parts of Arizona.
They literally have scouts on the high points in the mountains and in the hills and they literally control movement. They have radios, they have optics, they have night-vision goggles as good as anything law enforcement has, Sheriff Babeu said.
There are strong indications that terrorist groups are aware of the opportunity open to them in Mexico and are taking advantage of it. In July, a Hezbollah-likecar bomb killed four people in Ciudad Juarez. This came shortly after Rep. Sue Myrick reported that a high-level Mexican army officer had informed her of information about Hezbollah training drug traffickers in bomb production. Several car bombs have since been detonated in Mexico. The Mexican authorities havearrested a Hezbollah operative in Tijuana trying to set up a network using Mexican nationals with Lebanese backgrounds.
The cartels are in a very good position to help terrorist groups smuggle operatives and supplies into the U.S. The Drug Enforcement Agency recentlydiscovered a 600-yard long underground tunnel into San Diego from Tijuana, complete with lighting and ventilation systems. The cartels have entered into business with the Colombian FARC terrorists who also deal drugs with Al-Qaeda in West Africa. Hezbollah also uses the cartel networks for its own smuggling. It is not unlikely that terrorists could use the cartels to enter the country via these tunnels or through other methods.
In February, Anthony Joseph Tracy of Virginia was arrested for having links to al-Shabaab, an Al-Qaeda affiliate in Somalia. He is believed to have smuggled 270 Somalis into the U.S. from Mexico, few (if any) of which have been identified or located. The Mexican authorities are known to have detained and released members of al-Shabaab. The lack of border security is already being exploited by terrorist groups and from this one case alone, the U.S. now has potentially hundreds of Somalis in the country that were brought in by an al-Shabaab associate.
President Felipe Calderon of Mexico has deployed 45,000 soldiers in 18 states to fight the drug cartels but the violence is still escalating. He has shown the media a top-secret $100 million underground command center being used for a massive intelligence-gathering effort. He said it was inspired by the TV show, 24.At the same time, he is blaming Americas lack of gun control regulation for the arming of the drug cartelsa claim which has previously been debunked.
The drug war is also spreading into other Latin American countries. The barrio of El Gallito of Guatemala City has fallen along with other northern parts of the country. Officials have confirmed seizing military uniforms, anti-personnel mines and even anti-aircraft missiles from the Zetas drug lords. The Obama Administrations decision to withdraw the 550 National Guards troops sent in September to the Mexican border with Texas, New Mexico and California in February shows the threat still isnt being understood.
Texas Governor Perry is right that securing the border and fighting the drug cartels must be a top priority. We are no longer talking about the possibility that the cartels will reach into the U.S. because it has already happened. It is only a matter of time before the terrorists and drug traffickers enter into a business agreement that causes enough American death to make the border finally be taken seriously.

The Solution is obviously to oppose fence and hand out money to illegals. /sarc
God bless you, smoothsailing. I wondered if we were going to take this lying down. Superb post. Perry has as great a footprint on the border as a state is permitted to have under Federal law and also the whip and chain of Comrade Obama. We have been left to fend for ourselves and foot the bill that helps defend not just Texas, but the entire nation. All this while Obama is doing his best to bring the country to her knees with other Marxists in charge. Chaos is his plan. God help Rick and bless us all. Cain is going to be a gaffe machine even as golden as his heart appears. Rick can come back when he wants to and after he shakes that team up of his by adding some sharks to the pals.
I like the way you think! :)
It is all connected, Obama's intent was to arm Narco-Terrorist and then shut down border controls with the expectation that they would do something horrific with those guns and people would blame guns so he could bring popular support to gun control
Obama: We're Working on Gun Control 'Under the Radar'
On March 30, the 30th anniversary of the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan, Jim Brady, who sustained a debilitating head wound in the attack, and his wife, Sarah, came to Capitol Hill to push for a ban on the controversial "large magazines." Brady, for whom the law requiring background checks on handgun purchasers is named, then met with White House press secretary Jay Carney. During the meeting, President Obama dropped in and, according to Sarah Brady, brought up the issue of gun control, "to fill us in that it was very much on his agenda," she said.
"I just want you to know that we are working on it," Brady recalled the president telling them. "We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar."
Romney is a no-jobs guarantee. Cain will be led by the media into the gaffe hall of fame and that is a promise. Wisdom is the better part of valor. Insulting the proven candidate with your lack of it in the last American free election is telling. We better wake up as this is no picnic. If Rick fails to pick it up Gingrich will rise. He also has the chops and hopeful message, as does Perry.
Yeah let's do just the opposite of what will work..that's the ticket!!..LOL!!...:oP
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.

Neither point is true.
The Governor advocates for a strategic use of the fence. After all, only 800 miles have been approved for the whole 2000 mile border.
Who is “handing out money to illegals?” Not the Governor.
Everyone who goes to the last 3 years of school and graduates from a Texas high school qualifies for an exemption to the non-resident tuition rates, along with anyone who goes to a school in a county bordering Texas in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.
Those who are residents of other States who do not meet these criteria only have to live in Texas for one year, regardless of where they went to school or graduated.
It’s really starting to look like Holder may have to take the fall to save Obama. This reminds me of the leadup to the Saturday Night Massacre of the Nixon years.
I keep asking Perry’s supporters these questions. As president will Perry ‘enforce’ Federal law and send his educated illegals back to their country of origin? AND will Perry as president ‘punish’ employers who hire undocumented illegals?
What have the answers been?
The Solution is obviously to oppose fence and hand out money to illegals. /sarc
The bill for in-state tuition passed with only 4 negative votes. They are not “giving them money” as you suggest. They pay in-state tuition. Why can’t Texas decide? I would not have supported the bill but Texas obviously did.
The Border Patrol agents that I know all say that fencing works well in populated areas and does not work at all in the middle of nowhere. They say we need boots on the ground and increased use of technology to secure the border. Weird... that is what Governor Perry says too.
Total and complete 'silence'. Perry sure is NOT talking about how he intends to enforce FEDERAL law as president. I have come to the conclusion he will just issue executive orders of amnesty for his educated illegals. He has a history of going that route.
I don’t know what Perry will do. I don’t know what Congress will do. I don’t know what our courts will do.
Perry is a big boy and he can stand on his own two feet but all of those repeatedly kicking him in the groin for this bill have not examined his entire record on immigration.
What did Romney do with all those illegal Canadians? Did Romneycare cover illegals in Massachusetts?
I suppose Cain has a big advantage because he has never had to make these decisions and work with a legislature. I like him but he will find out it’s much different having to work with congress than it was being a CEO. By the way... what do you want to bet that Cain employed illegal aliens in his businesses? Any takers?
It’s great to demand purity from every candidate but we will all be disappointed. The Federal government created this mess and Perry has been pretty vocal about telling them so.
ANY poster who uses that pejorative 'purity' will no longer get any response from me.
Well you got a response. If you don’t want to answer that’s fine and it’s unfortunately typical for this website lately when it comes to attacks on candidates. For the record, I like Perry and I like Cain. I don’t like Romney. The word “purity” is a perfect description of the elusive trait that many use to trash candidates on this site and others. You won’t get purity from any of the candidates so take the whole body of work (their record) and make a decision and let’s have a reasonable discussion and debate about it.
I answered your questions.
Answer mine or ignore them if you want -
Did Romneycare cover illegals?
Did Herman Cain employ illegals?
If the answer is yes.... is that better or worse than Perry agreeing with his legislature (and citizens by the Texas constitution) granting children of illegals in-state tuition.
From what I’ve read in his book, he will use the power of the President to enforce border control and immigration laws.
http://rightwingnews.com/interviews/interviewing-rick-perry-on-illegal-immigration-2/
Presidents still can’t make laws or overturn Supreme Court rulings. However, they can allocate the funds that the Executive Branch Departments spend (DOJ and Dept. of Homeland Security, etc.) and influence regulations.
“If Im elected, I will direct my Secretary of Homeland Security to expedite construction of strategic fencing along the border, especially in high traffic areas where manpower alone is insufficient to do the job.”
“So as president, Id work to put in place an E-Verify system thats more accurate, less burdensome and really delivers the results we need it to.”
Here’s more:
Now, the current administration willfully refuses to enforce the laws on the books. While President Bush didnt fo as much as I had hoped, his administration did step up workplace enforcement, reducing the enticement for illegal immigration. President Obama on the other hand, has reversed course. He also has intentionally undermined one of the few successful measures the federal government has implemented. Section 287 (g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act allows the deputization of local law enforcement after training from federal authorities so that they may process illegal immigrants detained in the course of law enforcement activities for removal. This program simply allows local officials to aid Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the application of our laws
Bowing to pressure from interest groups in favor of unchecked illegal immigration , the Obama administration has instead issued new requirements intended to curtail the program by making it more expensive, among other things. So the Federal government is now manipulating successful programs to stop willing local jurisdictions from doing the federal governments job themselves.
