Texas Lt. Governor David Dewhurst Goes Rogue on Rick Perry
Rick Perry Report ^ | Oct 10, 2011 | Joe Hyde

Posted on 10/10/2011 10:21:09 AM PDT by bullypulpit

Texas Lt. Governor David Dewhurst, a Republican, went rogue this morning on Houston's KTRH 740 radio.

"I'm supporting Rick Perry for president. We agree on so, so many things. But on the case of in-state tuition, where folks are here illegally, I have a real problem," Dewhurst said.

Dewhurst is running for the U.S. Senate to replace outgoing Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison. This is a case of Dewhurst wanting to distance himself from the issue that has plagued Texas Governor Rick Perry with the conservative base of the G.O.P. Dewhurst is in a five-way race to win the Senate nomination for the G.O.P. in Texas.

"To give them [children of illegal immigrants] benefits is to reward those who have been here illegally, and I have a real problem with that," Dewhurst piled on.

Mr. Dewhurst, you and Speaker Strauss killed the Sanctuary City bill in the last legislative session. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

Gee, Davy, 10 years of silence on Texas’ Dream Act and now you’ve decided you’re against it?

Well, he obvioulsy wasn’t so insulted that he would change his support for Rick Perry.

He is just differing on this one issue.

Still there is a difference between the open borders libertarian who doesn’t want govt cracking down on anyone and the open borders liberal who gives them money.

Actually, he is probably the most moderate of the big 3 Tx Senate nominees (Cruz and Leppert being more conservative to different degrees) and he is likely trying to gain conservative creds while still currying favor by overall support of Perry.

We have to get rid of Straus as Speaker.

Then you have to make your state rep more afraid of you than he is of Straus. Straus is expert at strong-arm tactics and uses the power of his position very effectively to herd recalcitrant members to his goals.

I know that, with his teaming up with dems to remove Craddick from the spot. And I am lucky to have Ken Paxton as my rep, who will challenge for the Speakership.

Also, CHL on college campuses and employer parking lots and appraisal growth caps. It’s sleazeballs like these two that will bring about a DimCrap resurgence if we are not careful.

I was hoping Michael Williams would run (he opted for House race), so I agree with those supporting Cruz. Dewhurst MUST be stopped.

Perry's richest donors were a part of that effort as well, and coincidence of coincidences, those same donors gave money to Dewhurst and Straus.
