Sipsey Street Exclusive: Was the Gunwalker Plot Bill Newell's idea? Will O'Reilly survive?
Sipsey Street Irregulars ^ | 13 October, 2011 | Mike Vanderboegh

Sources familiar with the congressional investigation into the Gunwalker Plot say that investigators are homing in on early conversations -- and meetings -- between ATF Special Agent in Charge of the Phoenix Field Division William Newell and his self-described "long-time friend," Kevin O'Reilly, a State Department employee then on the National Security Council. This is reflected, say the sources, in the subpoena issued this week by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee seeking, among other things, "All communications to or from William Newell, former Special agent in Charge for ATF's Phoenix Field Division, between . . . March 16, 2009 to March 19, 2009."

The sources also say that Newell met personally with O'Reilly during this early period in the Obama administration and they believe that Newell may have "weaponized" the desire for more better statistics on the part of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and others to support the "90 Percent" meme -- that 90% of weapons seized in Mexico from the drug cartels actually came from American civilian market sources.

Newell, who the sources say was familiar with the tactic of "gun walking" from the previous failed Operation Wide Receiver in Tuscon where Newell had participated in it, probably provided the germ of the idea that "walked" weapons could be used to "boost the statistics" of weapons found at crime scenes in Mexico, in the words of an early whiistleblower in this case.

If this is true, it places Kevin O'Reilly, a State Department employee responsible to Hillary Clinton, as the critical potential witness in the early history of the Gunwalker Scandal. Sources also say that there is a "not unfounded" fear that O'Reilly, who was suddenly transferred to Iraq "to keep him from being interviewed by the committee" according to one, "will not survive the deployment."

This is a developing story and we will have more later.

IMHO, my money is on it coming out in the end that F&F was created by the administration, not in Arizona. Maybe initially discussed by some of the “colorful”, i.e., anarchist-types that the administration sees as “mentors”, “consultants”, etc., but probably then taken up internally by people in the administration and then initiated by as quietly as possible getting the Arizona office to start the official project. Would not surprise me at all to see evidence come out that puts Holder in the know within days of when the idea started inside the administration, back to the fall of 2009. This is only pure speculation on my part, but it does not make much sense that AFT management would come up with an idea fraught with so much risk for their own careers, and then proceed to implement it without getting authorization up the entire chain of command. The idea has (of course this is painfully obvious now) most serious implications for relations between the U.S. and Mexico. If a senior aide to the President or cabinet member became aware of this project, it sounds more than a little preposterous that they would not let the President know what was going on - certainly they would have informed the Attorney General (if it was not his idea). Of course the President may not have been informed in order to protect him, but the international relations problem that is has become was quite elementary to predict from the outset. It’s so bad and so obvious that one would have to wonder if those who authorized it were actually working against the administration they worked for.

These are Chicago experts. They know how to avoid being caught.

I am sure it goes like this:

Obama gets Holder, Emmanuel, Jarrett, etc together before he is innaugurated in 2008/2009. He lays out a basic agenda to accomplish verbally.

Obama’s trusted hands have similiar meetings with certain individuals whom they trust.

Remember, all this takes place before Obama is sworn-in.

The overall strategy is set and the details are left to the underlings. If something goes wrong, those underlings can be used as scapegoats to take the fall.

The difficulty is that after Obama is sworn-in, everybody wants updates on the strategy. This is where the paper trail starts being created.

There is no doubt that the general idea to create an event/situation where more gun control can be enacted came from the highest echelons....probably from Obama himself.

I think Clinton did the exact same thing and trusted confidants in the BATFE thought they could use David Koresh and the Branch Davidians as an excuse for more gun control.

Just like Fast & Furious, it all went wrong.

Irrelevant.

This was all done verbally at a coffee table in Rezko's, I mean Obama's, house.

No notes, no recordings, no emails.

The agenda only has maybe 10-20 items. Spread that among 5 people and each person only has to handle 4-5 items themselves. You don't need to write that down.
