At some point we have to decide to be sane instead of following a document thats unclear and outdated, writes University of San Francisco professor David Vann of the Constitution of the United States.
As professor Vanns soon to be published, Last Day on Earth concerns the 2008 shootings at Northern Illinois University, he was asked to give his opinions on preventing a repeat of these tragic though thankfully infrequent crimes.
And like most leftists eager to display a limitless fount of wisdom, he was only too happy to oblige.
Now some might consider an associate professor of creative writing an unlikely expert on methods of preventing multiple shootings on college campuses.
And they would be right! For the professors suggestions offer not only a complete disregard for fact, they reveal the passionately held liberal belief that only the deserving should enjoy any real measure of freedom.
For Vann believes universities can only hope to prevent the actions of armed lunatics if they: push for gun control, including the elimination of all handguns; require mental health background checks; flag anyone having served in the military; use metal detectors and station more police at campus borders.
In short, the professor apparently wishes to transform the nations already liberal universities into stalag oriented safe zones; leftist-run, mini dictatorships in which the good guys will be armed with the authority to determine both the identity and the fate of the potentially dangerous.

Never thought of a campus as having a “border”. Apparently it is okay for a campus to have a border, but not a nation.
If it were a completely private university they could do this legally, but they wan their private ownership rights and their public funding, like all progressives they want to keep the cake while eating it.
“the professor apparently wishes to transform the nations already liberal universities into stalag oriented ‘safe zones’”
You’d think at some point they’d notice a correlation between “safe zones” and mass murders. You don’t see many mass murders at inside gun onwers’ homes.
He probably made the statement so his book would see the light of day. As to the book, my guess is that it’s an unnecessary denuding of the nation’s forests.
I sent the following letter when my alma mater implemented a “gun free zone” rule.
Your decision against legal concealed carry memorializes the anniversary of the Virginia Tech shootings with practiced irrationality. You replicate the same comforting environment Seung-Hui Cho embraced, while asserting psychopaths must cower before a rule forbidding licensed students to carry pistols.
A rigorous, twenty-year study by John Lott and William Landes from University of Chicago Law School supports expanded concealed carry in public places. Passage of shall issue laws correlates with large decreases in multiple victim shootings, and reduced harm when shootings actually occur. Use of citizen deadly force makes startling interruptions causing assailants to abandon or improvise assaults. Police then respond to incidences in progress, instead of arriving for body counts and paperwork.
Also important were absences of shootings. Public place shootings provide perpetrators leading roles in malevolent fantasies. Previously imagined screams and explosions suddenly penetrate their beings, embellished by intimate, self-created visual stimuli of human terror, bloody mists, broken bodies, culminating in splendid, convulsive suicides at their chosen moment. The latent presence of armed citizens provides a deterrent disqualifying those places, and leading prospective murderers to abandon fantasies, or to seek a supportive gun free environment.
Rather than invite or allow licensed individuals, it seems more comforting for public officials and media to weave pleasing illusions around an occasional Columbine, Omaha mall or Virginia Tech, than recognize repeated cases of armed citizens thwarting violence. The Linfield campus shall become an official island of contentment for predators, during the ten-minute plus police response time.

I have a bumper sticker for this clown and his friends:
“Academics for Authoritarianism: Freedom Kills!”
"As easy as A B C"--A Diversity of Creatures"
Whether the State can loose and bind In Heaven as well as on Earth: If it be wiser to kill mankind Before or after the birth-- These are matters of high concern Where State-kept schoolmen are; But Holy State (we have lived to learn) Endeth in Holy War. Whether The People be led by The Lord, Or lured by the loudest throat: If it be quicker to die by the sword Or cheaper to die by vote-- These are things we have dealt with once, (And they will not rise from their grave) For Holy People, however it runs, Endeth in wholly Slave. Whatsoever, for any cause, Seeketh to take or give Power above or beyond the Laws, Suffer it not to live! Holy State or Holy King-- Or Holy People's Will-- Have no truck with the senseless thing. Order the guns and kill! Saying --after--me:-- Once there was The People--Terror gave it birth; Once there was The People and it made a Hell of Earth Earth arose and crushed it. Listen, 0 ye slain! Once there was The People--it shall never be again!
Point out what is unclear and outdated?
Be specific.
In my experience, it is “creative writing” professors that need to be “flagged”.
For someone who makes his living by writing - his notions are just twaddle. Isn’t it interesting that his “sane” ideas of gun control, implemented piecemeal and incrementally over the years, are the proximate cause, disarm the law abiding, and directly result in wholesale slaughter and then - to add insult to injury - he has the unmitigated gall to suggest that the correct approach is to call the constitution “outdated” and enact a total firearm ban. How convenient. What a friggin’ loon.
“we have to decide to be sane instead of following a document thats unclear and outdated,”
OK. Fine! That gives Us the right to jam a Gag into His yap since his 1st Amendment Rights are Also ‘Unclear and Outdated.’
The Bill of Rights is not a buffet you can pick and chose from.
I wonder how often gun stores are held up during business hours.
