SNIPPET: "A brigade of U.S. troops originally scheduled to be among the very last to leave Iraq is being pulled out of the country months ahead of its planned departure, military officials said Saturday."

SNIPPET: "The Fourth Brigade Combat Team, First Armored Division, based at Fort Bliss, deployed to Iraq in August to replace two withdrawing brigades. The troops were sent with the understanding they would be among the last to leave the country and were told to expect up to a 12-month deployment, though it wasn't clear how long they would stay in Iraq. But brigade officials informed hundreds of military families gathered Saturday at its headquarters that their troops would begin returning home within weeks."

Bet we leave most of the equipment there for Iran to use. Iraq is already saddling up with Iran. Our men and women really made a difference in Iraq didn’t they? Our government sold them out.

What do you think we should have done?

If we are going to go to war, fight it like a war. We spent too much time over there doing nothing. Since ancient history, it is well known that the longer you fight a war, the higher the chances of losing it. I’m just glad we didn’t fight Japan and Germany the way we are in Iraq and Afghanistan. You’d be speaking Japanese or German today. I don’t blame the troops, I blame our politicians.

i think fighting a war is pointless for our country now. No matter how justified we might be, the left will use it as an opportunity to gain political advantage, by sowing doubt and discord, and pandering to the 30% of the population who will always, it seems, be against what is in America's interest.

And our politicians absolutely lack the will to conduct any military operation with enough decisiveness to insure total victory.

Sending our men anywhere now is a waste.

Nothing good about this.... Nothing... Our premature withdrawal will only enhance the position of the pro-Iranian Sadrist forces in Iraq at the VERY time we are ramping up our disagreements with Iran (something that I deem long overdue).

At the same time, we are pre-emptively surrendering our access to tactically beneficial positions in Iraq, should we actually come to blows with Iran.

Why rush out of Iraq — somewhere where we have invested thousands of US lives and trillions in US tax dollars, only to RUSH into Uganda, where we (apparently, unlike Soros) have no existing serious or long-term commitments.

In a sense, I agree, but humans have been war like since their beginning. It’s the nature of the beast. I believe that history shows that since recorded history, there has only been about seven years that there hasn’t been a major war some place in the world. If that’s the case, we are doomed to fight another war some time. If we do, we need to fight it hard and get out. We need to show the world that we don’t want to fight but if we have to, we will give it everything we have. Maybe that will stop people from attacking us.....but I doubt it. There’s an old saying from ancient days that goes something like “Live for peace but plan for war.”

We will be leaving behind $300,000,000 worth of equipment.

Background:

Iraq sealed the deal by refusing to extend legal immunity to our troops. Our military command won’t operate in any country that does so.

Perhaps Obama is bringing them, along with other combat units home to establish a protection force for his administration when they refuse to give up power after 2012 elections???

Is it 'rushing out' to leave after almost 9 years? Rumsfeld imagined pulling out much faster, but the country started tearing itself apart.

We're providing support in Uganda (and central Africa) because they're been willing to do our dirty work in Somalia. Read up on it.

The military swears an oath to the Constitution, not the president. You wouldn't find 1 in 10 among them willing to keep him in power if he lost the 2012 election. Do you even believe what you type?

“What do you think we should have done?”

What Patton would have done. I would have started with supporting the protesters in Iran rather than the government. Then when things started t go to crap there, I would have sent in advisors to help the demonstrators.

Finally cross the border and take out Tehran,

Instead Obama sided with the radical government, pulled our troops out of Iraq and supported every government hostile to the US.

I believe that is called high crimes and misdemeanors.

The good news is that the troops are coming home early, and are finally out of that hellhole in Iraq.

The bad news is that many of these troops will be RIF (Reduction in Force) early next year and are facing separation without any severance and long term unemployment once they return to their homes of record.

And it won’t just be the Army.

I read that we are leaving all our equipment behind as it would be to expensive to bring home. Hell at scrap prices we should be at least auctioned off. And don’t (didn’t) we have some secret armor in out M1As? How are we going to replace it or are we going to rent Chinese stuff? We screwed ourselves big time and will lose many sons because of this BS.

I am willing to be sold on Uganda, if there is more to the story than I am seeing.

However, you simply do NOT cede your basing privileges next door to Iran the very same week you are ramping up the war rhetoric against Iran.

That is simply stupid.
