Gingrich compares Romney, Perry to 'kids,' plays up econ. ideas

Davenport, Iowa (CNN) - On Monday, the only history professor running for president offered stern lectures on economic policy, against President Obama - and even attempted to school Mitt Romney and Rick Perry.

"I literally felt like, the other night, I was the recess monitor on the playground, watching these two kids," Newt Gingrich said at a town hall in Davenport, Iowa. The former House speaker was referencing the bitter back-and-forth between the former Massachusetts governor and current Texas governor at last week's Republican presidential debate in Las Vegas, sponsored by CNN and the Western Republican Leadership Conference.

Gingrich also warned "that bickering is not going to be the road to the White House," adding, "There's nothing wrong with policy debates...Policy dialogue, handled with civility, is exactly what politics should be."

Newt’s right: Romney is Eddie Haskell and Perry is Lumpy Rutherford.

Cain and Gingrich agree to Lincoln-Douglas style debate in The Woodlands "The two Georgians seeking the Republican nomination for president have accepted an invitation from the Texas Patriots PAC to meet in The Woodlands [north of Houston] on Nov. 5 for a free-wheeling and moderator-free debate on the major issues in the 2012 presidential campaign.

The two participants — former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich — have gained ground in the polls following their performance in the first eight debates of the GOP campaign season. But Gingrich in particular has been critical of what he considers “gotcha” questions from reporters and the nasty tone of the most recent debate in Las Vegas." [snip]

"I believe it is fundamentally immoral for a society to say to somebody: 'If you work hard, you save, you're frugal, you do the right things, we have the right to take half of it away from you to give to people who didn't spend their lifetime doing what you did,'" Gingrich said.

I've just never bought into the idea that Washington knows how to spend my money better than I do.

Newt Gingrich is a big surprise.

He tied winning the last two debates with Mr. Cain.

My guess is that the quote has absolutely nothing to do with the picture. My guess is that, like a lot of other responsible people, Newt has changed his position on global warming. Indeed, if you look on YouTube, you can find clips where he says the opposite.

Once we realize that every candidate running is a politician with an angle and not one of them is a true outsider (the closest being Perry). We can get back to picking the best one to beat Obama.

Newt is awesome in debates and has decided to be the "statesman" candidate. Good plan by him. Plus he doggedly goes after Obama.

Perry still has the stats and the story.

Cain has the charm if he can keep convincing people he is an outsider.

Mitt has the "electability" factor.

Time to have Cain/Newt/Perry and Mitt sit down and hash this thing out.

Newt supports “limited amnesty” and is global warming nut.

Maybe instead of you bashing Newt for something stupid he did years ago, you could instead get after Perry for all of the stupid things he has said recently.

Newt has been the best debate performer so far. There is a reason he and Cain have agreed to a one-on-one debate - to eliminate the stupid moderators and the not-ready-for-prime-time Republicans.

It's basically down to Cain or Newt to me at this point. Perry showed he isn's prepared, dittoes for Bachmann, Santorum is a weasel, and Romney was never an option.

Perry’s no outsider!

Mr. TTC/Gardasil/amnesty is for sale for anyone, and that includes the globalist GOP Establishment. In fact, he’s their backup candidate to Romney this year, making him the #2 insider of the group.

I cannot stand Gingrich, but he will eat Herman’s lunch.

Even when Newt was posing with Pelosi on that loveseat, he said he thought climate change was happening, just that he wasn't sure if it was human-caused. And at that time, there was significant warming in the Arctic, which appears to have halted since.

So I don't see Newt doing a major flip-flop here. His major act of stupidity was posing with Pelosi in the first place.

Cain is a pure capitalist and a motivational speaker. It's what he does and he's good at it. In other words, Cain's just winging it.(Telling you want you want to hear.)

But Newt has political experience, common sense, knows politics inside and out and can put Cain in his place.

I went back to the $1 mill for an anti abortion campaign by Cain...the press makes it sound like it came out of his pocket when in fact, it came from a Cain PAC and was successful (according to Donna Brazille) in putting a few more voters in Cain's pocket.

At the rate Perry is going, CW, you’re going to have to be attacking all of the other GOP candidates, because all of them are going to be ahead of Perry in the polls.

That picture is from the ad that Gingrich and Pelosi made together for Al Gore’s climate change group.

So yes, the caption goes with the picture.

As governor he is more outside Washington than a 3 year lobbyist who helped run failed Presidential campaigns.

I think we may have a different opinion here of what "outsider" means.

My thoughts of "outsider" is someone who isn't ingratiated into Washington.

Guardisil and the TTC have nothing to do with being and outsider to Washington and this amnesty crap is just bull that keeps getting pounded over and over.

And the PerryKrishnas continue to pretend their candidate isn't flaming out and has no chance of winning.

He needs to drop out before he embarrasses himself (and conservatives) any further.
