One of my best friends brought a wife from the Ukraine about 10 or 11 years ago who spoke no English. During the time she has been here, she learned how to speak English, while learning English she aquired a college degree majoring in Actuarial Sciences and a minor in math.

Her entire family lived in a small apartment there, no one had ever owned a car before, food was commonly rationed in the markets. She knows communism, she lived under it.

She's one of the most outspoken people against Socialism and communism that I have ever met

Same goes at my work. I have a co-worker from ukraine. He was in the soviet military and in the Soviet War in Afghanistan. He is the most outspoken guy about socialism, marxism, etc...
He even agrees that we need to get rid of all muslims. He may even be more conservative than me, if that’s even possible. People that come from a socialist or communist nation, never want to go back and always praise capitalism. They know how it works and never want to see it happen again.

I have some friends that came over from Bulgaria. They tell me stories about waiting for hours to buy potatoes. Four years for a TV and it cost a years wages.

Then theres the car, if you wanted a car for your kid you had to order it when he was born so it would be delivered in time for his 18th birthday.

“One of my best friends brought a wife from the Ukraine...”

Isn’t Marina, the girl that does word origins on O’Reilly, from the Ukraine? She could teach me whatever she wanted to, all day long.

C’mon, you know your friends wife is just one of those rich Russians. The White Russians I guess... Probably voted for a living relative of the Czar in the last election. </sarcasm>
