So, Governor Rick Perry made a speech today where he proposed the following:
* Ending the practice of giving lifetime appointments to federal judges (current judges would not be affected);
* Cutting Congressional pay in half;
* Cutting Congressional pay in half again if they dont balance the budget by 2020;
* Cutting Congressional office budgets in half;
* Cutting the Congressional calendar by half;
* Criminalizing insider trading by Congressmen (no, actually, its not currently illegal for them to do that);
* Reducing spending to 18% of GDP;
* Privatizing Fannie & Freddie;
* Ending the funding of Planned Parenthood;
* Eliminating the Commerce, Education, and Energy Departments;
* Getting the EPA under control;
* Getting the TSA under control;
* Audit the government, including the Department of Defense;
* Freeze incoming federal regulations, and audit all of them for the last five years;
* Federal salary freeze for all non-military and non-law enforcement officials until the budget is balanced;
* And cutting the Presidential salary in half until the budget is balanced
This is not red meat. This is raw meat, still steaming from the cow.....

Details: The Perry Plan: Energizing American Jobs and Security
So, how much of this is doable?
I agree with all of it, but there too many bullets, or sirloins.
He ought to stick to just two or three
major goals...similar to Mr. Reagan. That way everyone can understand what he wants to accomplish.
Guess the fact that more then half of that is outside the powers of the President sailed right over the head of Perry and his supporters.
Perry is writing a political check here he knows he can never be called upon to cash.
You're spinning like a top.
A look at any of these plans show the detailed work and thought that has gone into them.
It is like the old joke. What do you call one hundred lawyers at the bottom of the ocean? A start.
This is a start. All these things need to be done but I thing top priority remains what Marc Rubio said, “we need more taxpayers, not more taxes”. Does any of this reduce our current double digit unemployment rate?
Perry wants to make Washington D.C. as inconsequential in your lives as possible.
When you look at the plan, read how it is laid out, it is not hard to grasp or see the path forward.
This is some very good stuff!
I say go farther and pass a law that that only allows someone that is legally registered to vote for a person running for Congress to donate money or anything of value to them.
Fine with me!
I REALLY like this one...
* Audit the government, including the Department of Defense;
Doable? Who knows, but the first thing that has to be done is to put it on the table.
Until the economy is growing on the private side vs the government side the country is in trouble.
Did you have an opportunity to see the other 2 Perry proposals that work in concert with this one?
Good conservative proposals.
Hope it helps Perry get more traction on the way up in the polls. If that’s still possible.
It’s steaming and eminated from a bovine alright.
Does that include leaving the southern border wide open? Did he fail to address that? Until he has a come to Jesus moment with illegal Immigration this red meat is a bunch of hooey.
He's gone after that bscore.
I was following it from afar, but I believe the TSA even threatened to shut down the airports in Texas because of it?
Perry is notorious for saying one thing during a campaign and doing the opposite once in office. Trust a Texan on this ... we've seen it over and over again with him.
*before*
Damn autocorrect!
Go Perry Go!
Spin away!
Perry has done more to protect the border than the Feds have and he wants it SEALED and NO amnesty.
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.
*****************************************************************************************************************************************************

Actually, you have a big plan when some of them are passed, you’re head of the game. That is his strategy...per Perry’s campaign.
Good start. I’m with all of that.
Not true, trust another Texan on this.
You may want to research Newt a bit more if you think he is fit for any political office as a conservertive.
Just saying
Sounds like good start!
I too am a Texan...prove your statement. I can say such and such all day long without proving my statement it is worthless. Ping me back with your proof.
Ignore the message, attack the messenger. Typical lib tactic.
Was reading this article and thinking about Free Republic and how it has contributed to sanity in this nation. consider the TVs that are still functional not having been shot, the walls without holes punched in them, the many small children who have not yet learned profanities. This is all due to Jim and Free Republic lending us a megaphone to shout our frustrations at the world. So get off your wallets people, put your money where your mouth is and help us pay for that megaphone. our sanity depends on this.
Respectfully
W.W.SMITH
You should know all about campiagns in deep trouble!
Yep!
Didn’t the 60 minutes thing make it clear that Congress is ALLOWED to do insider trading?
Everyone else would go to prison but not congress people.
The only other thing is I want THE EPA ENDED NOW.
Governor Perry has already talked about his plans for that.
If it'd help, I'll direct you to some links.
Patrick, the INSTANT the government takes its JACKBOOT off the necks of business, this economy will come roaring back to life. It isn't magic, it isn't voodoo, it's well known what needs to be done to kick start an economy, and sucking 10 trillion out of it to hand to your buddies and sycophants is NOT the way to do it.
MNJohnnie is the tirant of Free Republic. He issues commands and edicts to everyone here unless they support his candidate. His rules are to be strictly obeyed by everyone. Except himself.
Like the man said...”Better to shoot for the moon and miss than to aim at a stump and miss...”
Thanks for the ping, Shield!
Sounds just like a lib! :)
Read the little thing called "The Constitution of the United States" and after the next Amendment you can change it.
What may be clear to you or I will NOT be clear to Perry’s (or whom ever wins the GOP nomination) opponents. Perry, or the eventual nominee, will NOT be working in a vaccuum. If you believe that Perry’s reform platform is “doable” under the current conditions in D.C. then you’re extremely naive. No liberal is going to sign on for what Perry is proposing, and I envision that there will be a number of Republicans who would also not support this. Perry needs to pare down the scope of his ideas, especially for the campaign. If, and that’s a huge IF, he wins the nomination, then he might expand his ideas, somewhat. But the scope of what he’s proposing is a SHOTGUN approach being floated by a candidate that is in HUGE political trouble.
If you believe this is a shotgun approach you have not looked at the 3 sections of the policy direction.
The Perry Plan: Energizing American Jobs and Security
But it's a pretty good dream!
It'd be awesome if such things came to pass. But alas, leftist power is such that they never will until we have a civil war and a subsequent restoration of the Constitution.
I spelled it tirant so he wouldn’t understand. We both know the correct spelling.
Well said.
[snip]
There are a number of proposals which might be considered one would be a Constitutional Amendment creating 18-year terms staggered every 2 years, so that each of the nine justices would be replaced in order of seniority every other year.24 This would be a prospective proposal, and would be applied to future judges only. Doing this would move the court closer to the people by ensuring that every President would have the opportunity to replace two justices per term, and that no court could stretch its ideology over multiple generations. Further, this reform would maintain judicial independence, but instill regularity to the nominations process, discourage Justices from choosing a retirement date based on politics, and will stop the ever-increasing tenure of Justices. A similar model could also be applied to appellate and district courts.
In addition, there are some reforms to the Judiciary that would not require an amendment to the Constitution. Congress has the authority under the Constitution to establish the jurisdiction of the Court. If our courts insist on refusing to adhere to the Constitution and the law on important issues be it school prayer, life, the death penalty or anything else of importance to the people then Congress should take their jurisdiction away. As president, Governor Perry would work with Congress to establish the necessary changes to the judicial system. [snip]
