Gov. Perry challenges Pelosi to a debate (Pelosi to respond at today's morning press conference)

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has challenged the women conservatives love to hate — House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi — to a public debate next week.

In a letter obtained by The Hill, Perry requested that the pair meet for a debate during Perry’s visit to Washington next week to compare the plan he rolled out this week to “Uproot and Overhaul Washington” with the current system.

“I think it would be a tremendous service to the American public to see a public airing of those differences,” he wrote. “Let the people decide.”

Perry’s challenge comes just days after his roll out of his plan to reform Washington. A central piece of his plan is a part-time Congress with half the salary and office budgets.

“After increasing the debt by $4 trillion in less than three years no one can truly believe that Americans are satisfied with business as usual, and that a permanent political class in Washington can get us out of the mess you and your colleagues have created,” Perry wrote......

......Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill told The Daily Caller that the minority leader will address the challenge in her weekly press conference Thursday morning.

There are 3 reasons why this is a bad idea:
1.Nancy is not running for President
2.Perry's debating skills are terrible.
3.

“Can we post the letter.”

I don’t see why not! I transcribed it from the PDF — I don’t think ???? I made any typos.

Looks like Gov Perry has decided to apply his own version of asymmetrical warfare to his campaign. I’ll give him an “A” for creativity.
Personally, I think Gov Perry has gotten a “bad rap” and a lot of bad breaks and, yes, made a few highly visible “unforced errors.” While I am a Cain supporter, I don’t think Perry is anywhere near as bad a candidate as some here have proclaimed. He is VERY strong on States Rights and 2nd Amendment ...both very important to me.

I live in VA and I think many of us non-Texans are too quick to condemn Perry’s stand on allowing “illegals” to attend Texas colleges/universities at in-state rates. While I am not “wild” about that situation; I have to wonder just what Perry, as a leader, could be expected to do; given that the Federal government continues to not enforce our borders and to place obstacles in the paths of states that attempt to do so. It appears the vast majority of Texans supported the in-state tuition rates; based on their legislator’s votes. I think a whole lot of this controversial situation is more understandable when it is put in the perspective of the long history that Texans have w/their friends and neighbors who are of Mexican descent.

I’m probably going to get flamed; however, I sure would like to see all the sniping going on between Perry and Cain supporter come to an end. It’s not helpful.

Kudos on your analysis...dead on!

Adding another point

HE has the FIRE in the belly to DEFEAT Obama and his minions working so feverishly to destroy America.

Amazing how no OTHER candidate has put a plan in play to TOTALLY hold Congress accountable. Only 17% (?), believe Congress is working.

I think this is a GREAT PLAN!!!!!

Wow. Love the letter. Of course, she will not agree but it is a good opportunity to define the differences in the party.

Much as it’s begun to seem to the contrary, our candidate will be running against the Obama administration, not fellow republicans.

You and your buds better run on over to the Cain threads to try and prop up your guy. He needs it.

Posting useless, childish insults isn’t exactly up there with rocket science and brain surgery, friend.

Bringing Cain into it doesn't make Perry look better.

It will be interesting to hear her response at her reg. scheduled Thursday morning press conference (her spokesman said she planned to comment).

We only bring Cain into it because it is notorious that only Cain supporters jump onto Perry threads and attempt to discredit him.

Are any of the people posting negative stuff on Perry threads for Bachmann, Huntsman or Santorum? Didn’t think so.

If she does comment, it will be the first interesting thing she’s said in a while.

She’s sure to make a disparaging remark about Perry which will only increase his popularity.

Nice move, Governor Perry!

Someone with your tag line should give serious consideration to Perry.

He’s strongly pro-life and has done things to prove it like defunding Planned Parenthood in Texas.

Are you starting to notice rats are studiously ignoring Perry a bit too much? They must have some horrifying internals with him. They don’t belittle or insult him like FR Perry haters, they just pretend he isn’t there.

Maybe they were planning to cross over in the primaries to vote for him, initially.

I noticed that as much as Brit Bauer's evening show has tried to bury Perry, they reluctantly showed his "Omama pathetic and socialist" ad last night!!! Ha! They can see the line up and the storm clouds.

Excellent post! Couldn't agree with you more. I especially like his ideas about changing how things work in Washington DC. I would love to see Perry gain some traction on this.
