Triple Lutz Report--The Thought Police Reside in Your SmartPhone
www.KerryLutz.com ^ | 12-2-11 | Kerry Lutz

A security researcher, Trevor Eckhart, recently made a startling discovery. Hidden inside every Android and iPhone is a program called Carrier IQ (CIQ), which is capable of monitoring virtually everything you do on a SmartPhone. And then it has the ability to send all that data back to your wireless carrier and then who knows where it will wind up and how it will be used. Perhaps these phones have become too Smart for our own good.

This is our worst nightmare potentially being realized. With our freedoms being eroded at a rapid rate, this is a biggie. A cellphone is an incredibly personal device that we all assumed was private. Now we find out that even if, Big Brother or Big Sis (Janet Napolitano-Secretary of Homeland Security) haven’t actually been listening, they could have been. There’s percious little that you can do to disable this program, even if you knew it was working.

CIQ claims that it’s all being done for our benefit, to help carriers improve the quality of the service they deliver. Well that makes me feel much better. Perhaps now my calls will no longer be dropped when I pass by a bird feeder or go over a long bridge. The carriers, the phone manufacturers, Carrier IQ and all responsible parties need to be investigated and punished severely for any guilt they may have.

I’ve still got a ‘dumb’ phone, and it’s too smart for me.

I don’t even remember when I got the cell phone I have now, it’s so old! People laugh when I pull the fat old thing outa my pocket, and pull up the antenna! Doesn’t take pics, or display pics, which may be a bad thing, as some girl keeps sending me pics I can’t open. I don’t do Twitter, Facebook, or Linkedin. I have no desire to be that “connected.” I’m required to have a cell for my job, as I’m on 24 hour emergency call. When I retire, I will putt a 44 mag shot through this damn thing! I was at the supermarket yesterday, and it seemed that at least half the shoppers had a phone jammed up against their ear! It almost seems to be an ethnic thing.
And, I don’t Google, or whatever. I use Ixquick, which doesn’t track your IP, and has no cookies.

And,,, “Triple Lutz?”

When I was in middle school, we had a janitor named Lutz. One day he slipped on something, and had a spectacular fall. Wasn’t hurt, but half the school saw it. Falls where thereafter called “Lutzes.” And there were Double, and Triple Lutz falls.

That is hard to say with Android phones since the carriers can modify the OS.

With Apple, the carriers are not allowed to tamper with the hardware/software, so it is clear that Carrier IQ came from Apple Corporate and probably resides in all iPads as well.

When I was in Jr High School & High School I was classmates with Kerry. I didn’t know at the time what a great radio voice he would some day have. Kerry’s a life long conservative, from the very liberal N.N.J, suburbs. Which ain’t easy.

This Media Scare Story is the stupidest one yet. "The carriers know what keys you typed!" If you are surprised by this, then you must have thought that cell phones work by magic.

A little common sense here, people. The Phone Company (which is what these carriers are) is going to know what numbers you dialed, what was in the text messages you sent, and they could probably even listen in to your phone calls if they wanted. That doesn't require "spyware" in your phone, it falls out for free just from them being the phone company. It has been this way since Alexander Graham Bell's day.

This is just the media peddling crap to sell papers and generate ad clicks.
