While in Congress, Gingrich co-sponsored 418 bills with Pelosi

DES MOINES, Iowa — Newt Gingrich has taken heat on the campaign trail from conservatives for filming a 2008 commercial on climate change with House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi.

But that was hardly the first time the Republican presidential candidate and former House speaker collaborated with Pelosi.

Gingrich co-sponsored 418 bills in Congress with Pelosi during the 12 years they served together in the House, according to the Library of Congress’s THOMAS database.

Gingrich was in Congress from 1979 to 1999. Pelosi has served since 1987.

As a matter of comparison, House Speaker John Boehner, who has served in Congress with Pelosi for more than 20 years, has only co-sponsored 104 bills with her.

Many of the bills Gingrich and Pelosi co-sponsored were hardly divisive: authorizing an award for Mother Teresa, giving a congressional gold medal to former President Gerald Ford and recognizing the 50th anniversary of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

But one piece of legislation could be problematic for Gingrich with conservatives: the Global Warming Prevention Act of 1989, which never made it out of committee.

not really, conservatives do not want nor do most republicans or even Dems want homosexual marriage, men marrying 8 women , have a crack house next to a school, no sex age law so adults can have sex with little kids, sex with animals etc etc you know what I am saying I;m sure.
Plus international issues also, where some libertarians are in more tune with the left.

I honestly don’t understand why libertarians think they should run on a GOP ticket, come on conservative websites, use our debates etc etc.

If they think their message is good and they always try and make it look like theirs a lot of them then why not set up their own debates, have their own websites.

Anyway off to bed and thank you.

It was not Romney who forced Clinton’s hand on welfare reform

It wasn't Gingrich who "forced" Clinton's hand on welfare reform, either.

President Clinton vetoed the welfare reform bill the first time it hit his desk.

What happened next?

Gingrich and the GOP caved. They added into the bill "improvements" demanded by Clinton, including billions of dollars in NEW entitlement spending for federally funded childcare programs, new Medicaid eligibility, job subsidies and so on.

After adding billions and billions in NEW entitlement spending, Clinton signed the "improved" bill.

Moreover, some economists believe that this bill really moved very few people off welfare. Rather, they find, the fact that the economy was in the midst of the longest, biggest boom since the end of WWII was responsible for moving 40-80% of those who left welfare to work.

So what? That is what happens in Washington. Since you seem to have the information, how about analysis of each bill.

I wouldn't say simply asking our candidate not to cozy up to Nancy Pelosi a very stringent purity test.

Be honest and straight forward.

Be as consistent as possible.

Give direct non political answers.

As someone who has spent years studying world finance, I am to the point where I wish the government would simply give us a 4 year hiatus of social issues being politicized.

It’s a dream, I know, but I am truly terrified at the current economic status quo. Focusing on the US economy needs to be our future president’s primary focus.

The other issues are great to be passionate about. But without food and electricity, it all seems sort of petty.

still up

so let us all marry what ever we want, let adults have sex with kids, have sex with animals

what made this country great was the back bone of the family not dirty little perverts wanting sex in public, with kids and animals.

There is no way these dirty little perverts need to go need kids and yea we need laws to protect them we need laws for many things socially otherwise we’d have a perverted queer child molesting agenda going on.

I get so pissed off with those thinking we don’;t need to protect our kids etc and they hide behind no Govt or freedom

food electric, no what is important is family I say that as a father and husband and someone who grew up in foster homes .

family is more important than money

You’re taking what I say out of context. The current laws on the books that protect children and the family are essential for a stable society.

My point is that we need to maintain the current laws while focusing our attention on fixing the economy. I believe that our current system does a decent job of protecting the family unit.

This is ‘history’ in my book. Newt knows better now; who the enemies are; and he looks them in the eye and does not blink. It is over for Cain; and it should be over for Paul. Time to move on for those who support both. . .

Our currant laws are being turned into a sick social experiment right now because of the radical left.

See this is where libertarians or some anyway as not are sick and perverted go along with this crap.

2 homosexual women got a kid, he was was boy, they have now started to inject him to stop him from being him turning into a boy because they want the boy turned into a girl.

hey if some want sex in public, want sex with animals and yes there is a bill right now waiting for zro to sign it for the military, drugs legal and next to a school then guess what the perverted sick fools will be able to turn kids into other perverts.

Now I do not know if you want sex in public, sex with little kids and I friggin hope not as every dirty child molester should be off the street etc but we need laws and those shouting about we need to look at how much we pay taxes is more important to me is sick

That’s awful. Let’s re-elect Mr. Obama just to show how upset we are.

No, we'll elect a Republican who'll do the same thing as Obama (push global warming, healthcare mandates, support bailouts, etc) and convince folks in the next election cycle the Dems are the only choice to alter our course...
