Perry Goes After Gingrich, Romney; Declines Trump
WSJ ^ | December 8, 2011 | Danny Yadron

Posted on 12/08/2011 12:14:17 PM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

....In Iowa, Texas Gov. Rick Perry is set to launch his first negative TV ad against other GOP candidates, Washington Wire has learned. It will target Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich for supporting a mandate that individuals carry health insurance.

Such a requirement is part of the Massachusetts health care law that Mr. Romney signed as governor. Mr. Gingrich has previously supported a mandate, though he has since backed off of it.

The move comes as Messrs. Romney and Gingrich, who lead in national and state polls, are trading barbs over their conservative bona fides. It also represents an acknowledgement by the struggling Perry campaign that if it is going to regain any ground, it needs to dent Mr. Gingrich’s growing popularity.

Mr. Perry’s operation has gone all-in on Iowa, where it believes it is seeing a slight uptick in support. Public surveys put the governor in fourth place in Iowa, usually with around 10% support. Next week, Mr. Perry launches a bus tour that will keep him mostly in Iowa through the state’s caucuses.

In what it said was part of its new emphasis on retail politics, Mr. Perry’s campaign announced Thursday that the governor would not appear at the proposed Dec. 27 NewsMax debate, to be moderated by real estate mogul Donald Trump.

“Gov. Perry has talked to Donald Trump in recent days and respects him and the folks at NewsMax very much,” Mr. Perry’s communications director, Ray Sullivan, wrote in an email.....

I like Perry - but I’d much rather see him convince me he’ll go after Obama and the liberals better than Newt - instead of seeing him go after Newt. Just sayin.....no one - repeat NO ONE - has helped themselves even a tiny bit during this entire process by going after other GOP candidates.

Newt got to the top by going after Obama and the media and all liberals and by supporting the other GOP candidates. That’s how its done. Take a hint.

Gingrich and Romney slug it out for 15 rounds. By the end of the fight, both are lying on the canvas, on their backs, KO’d.

Into the ring steps the victor, not a scratch on him:

Rick Perry.

Texas Debt Clock runs backwards!

This is how you "create" jobs -- you create an environment that is friendly to employers!

Rick Perry:

FIRST: "Don't spend all the money!"

SECOND: "Have a fair and predictable tax and regulatory policy!"

THIRD: "Have a legal system that doesn't allow for over suing and make loser pay!"

Perry: Uproot and Overhaul Washington

The Perry Plan: Energizing American Jobs and Security

The Perry Economic Plan: Cut, Balance and Grow

Texas, Austin exception to gloomy retail picture

What!? No nasty graphic of two rhinos going at it -- like FReepers posted when Rick Perry entered the race and they hoped he would remove Romney? Gosh. I should go see if I can find it. It fits the Gingrich-Romney situation like a glove.

Gov. Rick Perry is the consistent Conservative.

I guess it's asking too much for Perry and his supporters to note what has worked for Newt so far - excellent debate skills and preparation, and taking the fight to Obama instead of the other candidates - and adapt them to the Perry campaign. Nah, let's bash Newt for figuring out what GOP voters want to hear in this election!

I guess the only way for Perry to pull even with Newt is to try and pull Newt down to the single-digit territory Perry has inhabited for some time now. Oh, well.

Except that Perry was already knocked out hard.

By himself. He has a vicious uppercut, too bad he landed it to his own jaw.

This is a blog from the WSJ. Let's just see what is broadcast.

Maybe it will be a blistering rebuttal of where he has firmly stood on the issues. That of course would be fair and reasonable.

Hey, Newt (like Mitt) has big flashing neon arrows pointing to statements and public records of big government solutions. You think Obama and the Dems aren’t drooling over the non-difference his candidacy represents to the sitting president’s improved chances with a depressed GOP base?

Texas Debt Clock runs backwards!

Thank you very much for posting that. It's very interesting and is totally new to me.

After looking at some other states, I'm curious about why Texas isn't faring as well as I would have thought. The ultra-liberal state of Maryland has a lower debt per citizen than we do. It's the same story with Minnesota which has been in the chokehold of the DFL and Big Labor goons for generations.

Is the "Debt Per Citizen" the right metric to look at or am I evaluating the data incorrectly?

Perry has money to throw away.

Perry has been very careful with his campaign funds. He worked hard for the support and funding. He will use it carefully and effectively.

Yeah...right...
Consistent Conservative...sure.

Coddling illegals and defending in-state tuition against those with "no hearts" is real conservative.
