The USDA keeps legalizing tons of GMO food.
It's Genetically Modified ^ | 1-4-11 | James Assini

Earlier this year, the USDA made a decision to allow the commercial use of “Roundup Ready” genetically modified sugar beets. The decision came a week after the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture approved the planting of a yet another genetically modified plant, alfalfa.

Michael Gregoire, deputy administrator of APHIS, a biotechnology regulatory service claims genetically modified sugar beets are safe and should be deregulated. “After conducting an environmental assessment, we have determined Roundup Ready sugar beets could be partially deregulated without posing a plant pest risk or causing significant effects on the environment,” says Gregoire. APHIS claims the partial deregulation of “Roundup Ready” sugar beets is just an interim measure until the company completes its full environmental impact statement.

Isn't it cool how we manipulate God's creation in accordance with His giving us dominion over the earth, and the plants, and the animals and the fish?

Opposable thumbs and big brains rock.

We even keep carnivores for pets. In fact, most of our pets are carnivores.

What a great world.

Genetically modified organisms are an affront to The Creator. He made all things to reproduce after their kinds. This is not good and will end up reeking unexpected havoc.

I have no reason to avoid carbohydrates. They are required for normal human life, as are fatty acids.

I do prefer my carbohydrates converted from sugars to other carbohydrates by yeastie beasties enslaved to my will (because I need the B vitamins), but I'm not shy about eating a lard and sugar sandwitch on white bread.

You some kind of prevert that has eating issues?

Oy if that name isn't a red flag. It's not your grandmother's borscht.

Virtually all the food we eat today was genetically modified by human beings during the last 3000 years.

Monsanto wouldn’t go through all the trouble of going to the Supreme Court to have the US Constitution altered via judicial fiat to change patent law on food/seeds stuffs so Monsanto could monopolized farming.

Having accomplished that, Monsanto must now successfully create a market based on it’s genetically altered seeds by influencing any government agency necessary and any world government willing to succumb.

Virtually all the food we eat today was genetically modified by human beings during the last 3000 years.

No, not like it is today at all! There is no comparison between something being hybrid which is perfectly acceptable to The LORD and something being genetically modified. With GMOs two or more unrelated organisms (even as different as mammal and plant) have a part of their genetic code removed and spliced into the code of the unrelated recipient changing it drastically in a way that is debauchery. These debaucheries are not meant by The Creator for human nor animal consumption. We were made to eat that which The Creator designed for us to eat.

The Bible prophesies huge famines near the end of this age. You can be sure GMOs are a great contributor to this. GMOs are being made so that they do not produce viable seeds. The seeds that are produced by GMOs often will not grow when planted. Farmers have become, and increasing so, slaves to the a few multibillion dollar seed companies. Those who control seeds, completely control the world's food supplies. This is intensely evil.

For 12,000 years farmers have followed a simple process: save the best seed from each harvest and use it to plant the next year's. Seed saving lets farmers cultivate the most useful and robust strains, improving the food supply. The plants we eat today were produced by thousands of years of human selection.

That could all be over in the next decade, thanks to the biotechnology industry and the United States Department of Agriculture.

In March 1998 the USDA and cottonseed giant Delta and Pine Land Co. announced a new patent: a genetic technology that stops plants from reproducing. Soon seed companies will be able to breed the gene, which some call the "terminator," into their products. Those seeds will produce crops that don't reproduce, forcing farmers to buy new seeds every year. Seeds with the terminator gene should be on the market by 2004.

Biotechnology companies produce the strongest, highest yielding seeds. When they add terminator technology to their products, farmers who hope to compete will have little choice but to purchase new seeds every year.

Melvin J. Oliver, the USDA scientist who developed the terminator gene, told Global Pesticide Campaigner why the U.S. government wants to stop farmers from saving seeds: to fatten the profits of American seed companies. "Our mission is to protect U.S. agriculture," he said.

Two months after the announcement, agrochemical conglomerate Monsanto bought Delta and Pine for almost $2 billion. Monsanto is world leader in bioengineered crops; with the USDA's new technology, it will be able to create an endless market for its products.

Farmers in the developing world will feel the terminator's harshest effects. The gene will allow commercial seed producers to profit from self-pollinating crops, including rice and wheat. As the seed industry continues to consolidate, the ability to produce those two crops, the staple foods for three-quarters of the world's poor people, could depend on a private monopoly.

Censorship takes many forms: The Ecologist's printer of 26 years refused to release the magazine's special issue on Monsanto and discarded 14,000 copies, citing fears of a libel suit.

Argentina experienced more fallout as well that threatens to spread. Its soybean monoculture affects the countryside hugely. Traditional farmers close to soybean ones are seriously harmed by aerial Roundup spraying. Their crops are destroyed as that's how this herbicide works. It kills all plants without gene-modified resistance. It also kills animals with farmers reporting their chickens died and horses were gravely harmed. Humans are affected as well and show violent symptoms of nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and herbicide-inflicted skin lesions. Other reports claimed further fallout - animals born with severe organ deformities, deformed bananas and sweet potatoes, and lakes filled with dead fish. In addition, rural families said their children developed "grotesque blotches on their bodies."

Forest lands were also damaged as vast acreage was cleared for soybean planting. Their loss "created an explosion of medical problems because Roundup is toxic, kills every non-GMO plant that grows and, it harms animals and humans as well that come in contact with it.

As for higher promised yields, results showed reduced harvests of between 5% and 15% compared with traditional soybean crops plus "vicious new weeds" that need up to triple the amount of spraying to destroy. By the time farmers learn this, it's too late. By 2004, GMO soybean plantings spread across the country, they cost more to produce and yield less, and Engdahl summarized farmers' plight: "A more perfect scheme of human bondage would be hard to imagine," and it was even worse than that. Argentina was the first test case "in a global plan that was decades in the making and absolutely shocking and awesome in its scope."

Um.... He, Himself gave us dominion over the Earth.

Do you think He gave us dominion to use it responsibly or to do whatever we like no matter what the consequences may be? He clearly created seeds to reproduce after their kind. Read The Bible so that you can understand what His will is, which isn't to do whatever we want in the name of dominion.

DUH, every miniature whatever dog you see is the product of selective breeding and in breeding, to produce a dwarf. Thousands of pups are killed searching for the correct animal.

You are wrong, thousands of foods you eat today are the results of a hybrid, and most hybrids will not reproduce, they are crossed each year to reproduce the hybrid seed. GM plants just speeds up the process.

Just speeds up? Are you kidding? If it were only that, who would argue. However, the modification process is more complex than catalyzing a natural process. First, some of this is producing cheap easier to produce food. However, there has been some experimenting with population sterilization ( a UN favorite), and who knows what else. I would ask are the folks at the FDA eating all the food they are approving. This is why I barely eat vegetables. Meat, well there is only a level of modification which doesnt kill the animal,so maybe we are minimizing our exposure. Ug, did not want to eat breakfast thinking of the GM process.
