Perry's On The Move In Iowa

GOP presidential contender Rick Perry is gaining ground in Iowa. A new American Research Group poll shows the Texas governor with 13% support from likely caucus goers. That's up 8 points from the same survey last month while current front runner Newt Gingrich has dropped 5 points (27% to 22%) and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has dropped 3 (20% to 17%). Congressman Ron Paul has gained a point since November (16% then 17% now), but the majority of the Gingrich/Romney losses are definitely Perry gains.

Why do conservatives want to trade one big government socialist who is more poised to lose for re-election than Carter was in exchange for a statist nanny stater who engages in corporate welfare cronyism and demonstrates a soft heart for illegals?

Perry

Gingrich

Romney

Paul

Which one is the rock-ribbed conservative that we can trust and is not certifiably insane? Because those are the four that still stand a chance in hell of winning the nomination.

I’d really like your answer.

“as silly as it may sound, I’m not interested in hiring a candidate. I’m interested in hiring a President. For me, that President is Rick Perry.”

You have to become the former in order to become the latter. Perry is, as his poll numbers show, a horrible candidate. Horrible candidates do not win nominations nor do they win elections.

I still feel however that Perry would make the best president, if not the best candidate of those running currently.

“Perry is an idiot.”

Not true. He just sounds like one sometimes.

Perry is an idiot.

Care to elaborate on that statement? Do you live here in Texas?

What a brilliant post. You should be proud.

You should call your grandchildren over to see it so they can be proud also.

How many elections has Perry been in? How many has he won? How many has he lost? OH, yea, I think he’s never lost.

Given “Dubya” and now Perry.....maybe a politician doesn’t really have to sound competent to win an election in Texas.

I like Perry, but because he cannot explain himself well enough - obama would shread him in a debate.

I don't think so. All Perry has to say is, "obama you have led this country into a ditch it's time to get out of the way."

The advantage Perry has in the debates is the expectations will be low so unless he falls apart he wins. I thought it was pretty impressive how he turned around the "oops" moment and made himself like able. The other thing to bear in mind is he has 10 yr history as Gov of TX and that state has done well during that period.

13% support from likely caucus goers.

One more point and he'll have the percentage Alan Keyes got in 2000, which was good enough for one of the three proverbial "tickets to New Hampshire."

This time, that probably means fourth or fifth.

Indeed, Newt has high unfavorables. He cannot attract swing voters and independents.

I am supporting Perry. I think he would make a better president AND can win the race.

Just our of curiousity, what evidence can you point to that demonstrates great debating skills on the part of the One occupying the Oval Office?

Agree, Bunny and all the other Perry supporters here.

All Perry needs is a good enough bump to become a strong possiblity.

I think a lot of Newt supporters would really love an alternative.

“All Perry has to say is, “obama you have led this country into a ditch it’s time to get out of the way.”

The question is CAN HE say that without rhetorically stepping on his d**k?

I would love an alternative. I really do not want to vote for Newt. I need a viable alternative to Romney. I’d love it if Perry were able to string together three or four debates in which he did NOT sound like an escapee from the monkee house....because he’d make a good President. He just has to prove that he’d make a good candidate as well.

Three or four debates?

He was very strong in the Iowa Thanksgiving forum on 11/19, good in the CNN debate on 11/22, good at the Huckabee forum on 12/3, and really strong in the ABC debate last Saturday.

That’s four in a row where he hardly sounded like “an escapee from the monkey house.”

Perry is my first choice, but come on, he really blew it in the debates.
