President Barack Obama faced a civil liberties backlash today after he signed a law that will allow terror suspects to be held indefinitely- even raising the prospects of U.S. citizens being sent to Guantanamo Bay. The controversial move, revealed last night, effectively extends the laws of the battlefield to American soil.
The move shows a clear hardening of Mr Obamas anti-terror policies, and a major shift from the liberal stance that helped him sweep into power three years ago.

Yes. I originally was not as worried and thought it was Conspiracy hype until I read about them stabbing the American people in the back and removing the clause that exempts American Citizens.
Senate Amendment (SA) 1126 would “clarify” Section 1031 to explicitly state within the section that the authority of the military to detain persons without trial until the end of hostilities does not apply to American citizens. [Update: Voted down 45-55]
SA 1125 would limit the mandatory detention provision in Section 1032 to persons captured abroad, not in America. [Update: Voted down, 45-55]
If you are Irish, you have no worries. O’Bama considers himself as Irish and he will not send his countrymen to the Guantanamo Gulag. /sarc
Yeah, I'm sure all the liberal suck-ups in the MSM are sooooooo concerned. Well, they were concerned someone might know what library books they read years ago - but this? Nah. They know the real enemy - those conservative middle class fellow citizens...
This is a “Bill of Attainder”, prohibited by the Constitution.
For those who don’t know, LOOK IT UP!!!
The legislature is trying to bypass the courts. I suspect the Supremes ain’t gonna be very thrilled about that one!!
Somebody gonna get B-slapped big time!
“Hes planning a FR wing.”
While you are there, you can send 42 Repiblican senators postcards thanking them for granting Obama the power to detain you.
Here is a (the?) section that talks about it. Not sure what “exceptions” can be made - but U.S. citizens or Legal Resident Aliens can NOT be detained under the new rules.

October 2012. That’s the date we have to watch out for. A national “crisis” will compel the mass arrests of conservatives to be sent to newly-constructed camps across the nation.
Gitmo becomes Gulag?
FUBO!
You’ll be able to recognize me... I’ll be the one screaming like a little girl.
“The move shows a clear hardening of Mr Obamas anti-terror policies, and a major shift from the liberal stance that helped him sweep into power three years ago.”
Aided and abetted by the republican legislators in both houses.
Blame Obama if you want, but McCain and Graham supported this thing.
“Aided and abetted by the republican legislators in both houses.”
For some reason, they don’t want to acknowledge that side of the legislation.
..anti-American nutjob who terrorizes populations...
...maybe Zer0 will commit himself to Gitmo....
How is it possible that this is not in the Breaking News or Front Page News sidebars?
Let alone having it's own Subject Link at the top of the page?
The American Constitution was just eliminated by congressional vote. I would think that a website called Free Republic would find that somewhat important.
I don't know what's scarier - the vote, or the universal silence about it.
The Founders knew that throughout history, where ever it was tried, democracies always devolved into authoritarian or totalitarian, tyrannical governments.
And that's right where we're heading.

By the time this plays out, the US will have become a police state where you no longer have liberty.
Without security of your person, your property and your privacy, you have no liberty. It simply an
illusion of freedom - granted only if the state likes you.
In the not too distant future, you will wish you had arranged for another passport of
another country, shipped your wealth offshore and set up a bolt-hole far from here...
that is, if you haven’t already done so.
Time is running out.
When Democracy become Tyranny, I still get to vote. Maybe only once, but there will be a reckoning.
Homeland inSecurity named third party voters domestic terrorists, among many others.
McCain did this.
