Is Rick Perry the Iowa Dark Horse?
The Atlantic ^ | December 31, 2011 | Molly Ball

Posted on 12/31/2011 4:20:30 PM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

....... Perry is still the affable governor of Texas, and voters still want to like him, which has become easier since he's mostly stopped screwing up all the time...

...He tells the crowd that the small towns of Iowa are just like the small towns of Texas, where he grew up: "The same people, the same values."

As the days to the caucuses wane, Perry has things other candidates would kill for: Crowds who want to meet him, ads all over the airwaves, a decent ground organization, an anti-Washington message people are hungry for, and terrific hair. The question is whether it's too little, too late, to get through the crowded pack ahead of him.

Several Perry-inclined voters in Boone said they were former Herman Cain supporters, which helps explain Perry's uptick.

Marti Melton-Streeter, the former GOP chairwoman in Boone County, said she couldn't support Romney because of his health-care record, and she's frightened by Ron Paul's foreign policy views. Perry, she recently decided, deserves a second chance with voters.

"I'd really like to see Rick Perry come out of Iowa. I think he needs that opportunity on the national level," she said. "I know there have been missteps along the way, but his philosophy is what we need in a candidate."

Carolyn Erickson, an 81-year-old from Ogden, thought she'd made up her mind to support Romney, but Perry changed her mind.

"I was what you call impressed" with Romney when she saw him Thursday, she said. "Today, I'm excited. I feel a passion for [Perry]."

But at least one audience member experienced a different conversion. Loren Nalean, 61, a Boone attorney, said Perry convinced him to caucus -- for Romney.

"I just think he's more intelligent and more sophisticated than Governor Perry," he said.

Myself, I see only one obvious, actual “choice” among the R candidates.

If I absolutely had to guess at one lesser of evils among the remainder of the R herd, I would have to admit to RP (Perry) as a possibility...maybe.

Funny how that dumbass manages to run the 13th largest economy in the world, manage international treaties and run for the presidency at the same time.

Poor Herman couldn’t bake a pie and run a campaign.
Bachmann is toast
Santorum doesnt have it,
Huntsman is Romney lite,

Then there’s Newt and Paul Pot

whoo boy!

I can’t tell you how many times I have been flamed on here by people saying if I support Perry I don’t know what I am talking about as they are Texans and they know he is not good for America blah blah blah.

Thanks for the positive post from a Texan.

Yes, he did back off. It makes me a bit nervous that someone was able to get him interested in these wacko ideas................

Maybe he learned something from the experience.

I’d say that Perry had a whole lot more to do with Texas staying that way for the last 10 years than Newt did.

BTW, where HAS Newt been for the last ten years?

I shiver to think what the Obamaites will do with that question should Newt be the nominee. Mind you, if Newt gets it, I would vote for him without question; I just don’t think he is our best choice. I think Perry is by far the best candidate to take the fight to Obama and WIN.

Over the course of the years, I have seen that much of the stuff Perry gets beat up for is stuff the he is forced to deal with.

NAFTA etc

He has always stayed on the side of the people.

He nixed the TTC due to public outcry and now Mexican truckers have free reign of all our roads due to NAFTA.

Po ol Perry got a bad rap, he tried to meet the letter of the law by making a TTC corridor.

I disagreed with a lot of it, Particularly jobs going to Cintra rather than Texans.

But now we have something worse.

I wish that Perry would make a comeback - but he won’t. He went in without an organization, without a plan and he was woefully unprepared. It’s our loss. But his fault.

I supported Sarah Palin and when she bailed I was wailin'

Then I went to Herman Cain

Yes, I could be very merry

and would support Rick Perry

If I only had a brain.

If a guy who was interested in some pretty wacky ideas makes you nervous, how do feel about the brain trust guy who actually thinks them up and commits them to paper in a dozen books?
