While I have tremendous faith in a certain portion of our population, this is not enough. We now have a debt that exceeds GDP. This is well past the point of no return. The only reason that we are ok for the moment is that interest rates are artificially low (partly through fed actions, and partly because the rest of the world is in even worse shape, making the US a very temporary haven). Add to that state and local fiscal problems, and the situation really is that bad. Add to all of that unfunded liabilities (probably the biggest problem we have), and no amount of growth or entrepreneurial spirit will be enough.
Also, in prior times, entrepreneurship was celebrated, not vilified, buried under mountains of regulations, and taxed punitively.
While it is nice that we are starting to see a revival of true conservatism, it is difficult to see how it is not too little, too late.
These are real, immutable, problems that won’t go away just because this country has a good track record.
Bump! Except I feel you’re a little too pessimistic. Or, maybe I’m a fool :)
