Perry Joins Rivals in Attacking Romney on Bain
New York Times ^ | January 9, 2012 | RICHARD A. OPPEL JR., The Caucus

Posted on 01/09/2012 9:32:18 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

...Mr. Perry mocked Mr. Romney’s recent statement that there were times he had worried about losing his job, pointing out that Mr. Romney had grown up wealthy and privileged.

“I mean, he actually said this,” Mr. Perry told more than 100 diners at a breakfast gathering here.

“Now, I have no doubt Mitt Romney was worried about pink slips — whether he was going to have enough of them to hand out because his company, Bain Capital, of all the jobs that they killed,” Mr. Perry said. “I’m sure he was worried that he would run out of pink slips.”

He said that people in nearby Gaffney, S.C., in particular, “would find his comments incredible,” because it is where Mr. Perry said Bain shut down a plant and fired 150 workers.

“That didn’t happen until Mitt Romney’s private equity firm, they looted that company with more than $20 million in management fees.”

He also charged that Mr. Romney’s firm took $65 million in management fees out of a steel company in a deal in which 700 steelworkers in Georgetown, S.C., and Kansas City lost their jobs, their health insurance and “large portions” of their pensions.

“There’s nothing wrong with being successful and making money — that’s the American dream,” Mr. Perry said. “But there is something inherently wrong when getting rich off failures and sticking it to someone else is how you do your business. I happen to think that that is indefensible.”

“If you are a victim of Bain capital’s downsizing, it’s the ultimate insult for Mitt Romney to come to South Carolina and tell you he feels your pain — because he caused it,” Mr. Perry said..

Perry on Mitt. Some highlights:

Perry's ad: Carbon Copies [:60]

Perry rattles Mitt: That's -- I'm running for office, for Pete's sake, I can't have illegals. [video clip]

And Perry's gone after Mitt (A LOT) on hiding his support for mandated health care (remember the $10,000. bet?).

Perry's ad: "Romney's Remedy" *RomneyCare* [:59]

Looks like all the conservatives will go after Romney on this.

Romney is such a hypocrite and never worried about others a day in his life. To say he feels one’s pain if they got a pink slip is downright absurd.

It took me all of TEN MINUTES to learn the TRUTH behind the Romney/GS Tech B.S., yet some on FR still insist on pushing a FALSE MEDIA MEME.
Why?

I always wince when a Conservative goes after someone for how they make a living in the private sector. That being said, Mittens can look forward to this 100 fold if he is the nominee. The Regime is going to personally tie him to every job loss since 1984. Why people think he is the most electable candidate running makes no sense to me.

Isn’t there ONE candidate in the race that can attack Romney without adopting the left’s talking points about the evils of capitalism?

Attacking Romney is a waste of time at this point. His paltry 30% (40% in Socialist New England) is impenetrable because his supporters have been sufficiently indoctrinated into a cult of personality for the past 6 years. Futhermore, even addressing Romney only gives him a false sense of credibility.

70%+ of Republicans nationwide reject this duplicitous snake oil salesman.

All attention and effort must be directed toward the absolute need for conservatives to coalesce around a conservative candidate.

I despise Mittens. But this is the WRONG approach. Slamming venture capitalism and saying they “kill jobs” and “pass out pink slips” only helps the Left.

If Mitt wins the nomination, this issue will be Obama's ticket to his 2nd term.

The conservative GOP candidates know it.

Mitt has to be eliminated.

It also is what the Left will sucessfully use to sink mittens. Unpleasant, but this is not the time to run a corporate raider for President.

Absolutely, that is why they want him. He is the only candidate with these kind of credentials they can use. Obama is salivating over Romney, and I am sure they have even more ammo.

Fantastic, our field of conservative candidates have decided to go full Marxist against Romney. They do not call the GOP the stupid party for nothing.

There are plenty of reasons not to like Mitt. But his career as a venture capitalist acquiring faltering companies to turn around and make a buck is not one of them.Part of turning around companies is handing out pink slips to control expenses in order to survive and selling off pieces to raise capital to keep it going in tough times.Although I am not aware of one company Bain acquired to “ship off jobs to China”, I would not fault them if they did because most likely the reason it was faltering was because domestic labor costs and the regulatory environment made their product not globally competitive with similar products manufactured overseas.Bain did nothing illegal. Business is not a charity nor is it a political enterprise to appeal to populist voters.I would expect this rhetoric from Obama and the Dems but not from a conservative like Newt and Perry. They need to attack Romney on his weaknesses as a flip flopper and a “moderate” not serve as an Obama proxy to attack venture capitalism as an evil endeavor. This last bit of nonsense has moved me into the Santorum column unless Santorum starts spinning the same foolishness.

I HATE his campaign and him for doing this. No way Perry will get me to go with this line of attack.

He is still my preferred candidate. But, this line of attack is just not going to sit well with me.

Wah-wah-wah.

Perry was dumb for attacking Romney in an early debate. The Mormon Nevada crowd booed him. Perry was dumb for not attacking Romney in the NH debate. Santorum, Huntsman, Paul, Gingrich were all dumb for not attacking Romney in the NH debate. Now, Perry is dumb for attacking Romney again.

This is the most fickle, dipsh*tted bunch of republican voters I've ever witnessed in my life.
