WASHINGTON, Jan 12 (Reuters) - Blount Fine Foods is recalling some of its Rip Roarin' Crab Soup sold in 16-ounce cups because it contains undeclared milk, wheat and crab, the company said.
The back label of the crab soup incorrectly identifies the product as Manhattan Clam Chowder, the company said in a statement on the Food and Drug Administration website. The ingredient statement also fails to declare the milk, wheat or crab, which can cause serious or life-threatening reactions to people with allergies.

This is pretty serious stuff though. If you have a wheat gluten intolerance problem you will be ON THE POT within the hour and may not leave that station for HOURS. While your intestines heal it could be you can eat nothing solid for up to three days.
I think somebody at that company doesn't read English language instructions very well!
Being from just north of Boston I consider the words “Manhattan Clam Chowder” to BE the Warning Label.
One of my niece’s has wheat gluten intolerance, so I agree with that. And the milk. But to be dinged for not warning that crab soup contains crab seems a bit over the top. Kind of like the “may contain nuts” on a bag of peanuts.
Imagine that!

I’m NOT from anywhere near Boston, but I agree 100%.

Sorry about that.
I’m not sure how I managed to ‘triple post’.
Oh well, at least now everyone knows for sure that I am not from Boston...
You could always have more soup...

undeclared milk?
is that like undocumented milk?
Nevertheless, I must warn you that in future you should delete the words ‘crunchy frog’, and replace them with the legend, ‘crunchy raw unboned real dead frog’ if you want to avoid prosecution.
“But to be dinged for not warning that crab soup contains crab seems a bit over the top.”
The ingredients label should reflect the contents. In this case it did not. These recalls are voluntary, usually- a producer catches the mistake and issues a recall warning.
I’ve seen peanut clusters recalled “for undeclared peanuts” when the ingredients label neglects to mention peanut, or mentions some other nut by mistake.
People with allergies fought for good labeling. As a poster above pointed out, gluten problems can inconvenience someone for days, as can eating nuts by mistake.
Here is the FAAN notice:

For people with time on their hands, here is an archive of allergen alerts, so you can see a bigger slice of the issue. It’s rare that this made the papers, but probably the humor of crab soup containing, guess what! Crab! was irresistible.
“Why, our sales would plummet!”
“I’m not interested in your sales, I’m here to protect the general public!”
“Ram’s Bladder Cup.....Cockroach Cluster....Spring Surprise... I shall have to ask you to accompany me to the station.”
“It’s a fair cop..” “Don’t look at the camera!!”
LOL!
“If only the general public would take more care when buying its sweeties, it would reduce the number of man-hours lost to the nation and they would spend less time having their stomachs pumped and sitting around in public lavatories.”
I laugh every time I buy peanut butter and look at the allergen statement.
